Get some sort of visor demister/stick from Hein Gerick.

They dont last for long but will get you through the test.

Lots of other short cuts people have tried to prevent misting too, have a google.

To stop it from steaming up, I bought a Fog City insert and I'm well happy I did. Since then, I've had no problems with it, and before that it would steam up as soon as it got a bit cold outside.

As for the rain, I've found out whenever I clean my visor (using some cheap visor cleaning spray) it'd prevent the water from sticking for a while.

This may sound silly, but as well as leaving your visor open a bit at the bottom (first notch), I find breathing down past my chin helps eliminate fogging in slower traffic.

As for droplets on the visor itself, a wipe with the back of your glove, or turning your head to each side can help remove them. The latter only works at speed though.

Good luck for Thursday!

I would generally not leave it till two days before your test to try solve such a problem Wink

You have a couple of solutions....

1) Pinlock visor insert - a thin second membrane that fits to the inside of your visor, if fitted properly stops fogging and misting. But will not stop your glasses misting. If you have an arai or shoei and a couple of other brands they have the pins already fitted to the visor so you can just slide and fit the pinlock.

Pinlock

2) Breath Guards - a fabric hoodie for your nose, you can achieve the whole chav/drug dealer/look at me im hard look. some people swear by them, some people swear a lot at how crap they are and how much they can damage the soft lining in your helmet. still this wouldnt stop your glasses steaming up and could be uncomfortable when combined with glasses.

clicky

3) Anti fog sprays, the best I have seen is the shiftit Anti Fog. Its good but it doesn't last forever, would be a good thing to spray the morning of your test and unlike the other two you could put it on your glasses too.

Clicky

Glasses on bikes will always be a ball ache, if its not them steaming its them being a pain to take off and on again or bending or getting gruft on them the best solution i have found so far is contact lenses but again they have their drawbacks

Hope some of that is useful Thumbs Up

Edit - These are pretty usefull if its pissing it down too

Now i know this may sound pretty special but i have some car wax (used to wax carbon blades on the r/c helis to make cleaning them easier and shinier heh).

Would this help with either reducing misting on the inside/repel water on the outside?

Or will it just eat up the plastic making it hazy all year round?

I don't think it will stop steaming on the inside as the air temp inside is warmer than the outside causing condensation.

It could let water clear from the outside quicker, but more likely just strip any finish off the surface.

Don't wear anything over your mouth/nose.
Breath downwards from your mouth.
Bob heath spray is OK.
Visor being opened a bit shouldnot get rain on your glasses ( yes i do wear them)

Waxing outside of visor does help to make water run off faster. Turing head slightly sideways also helps remove water faster.

Hi

Visor open a touch should be OK for your glasses, but the problem I find is that opening the visor can result in a drip getting in then and onto your glasses. Once open it doesn't get any worse (some drizzle can cause problems).

Agree with most of the points above. Make sure your visor is very clean. And learn to control your breathing.

All the best

Keith

I've found I can just open and shut my visor when doing about 20 ish - slower than that doesn't let the rain in much and faster than that chills the visor enough to stop it fogging up (although may be air flow through the vents)

I tend to time it so as soon as I stop at lights or whatever, up goes the visor, then when accelerating through second, down it comes - might be different on a larger bike of course.

Just a quick fix if you haven't got time to get a product.

Some folks swore by washing up liquid but I'm not convinced by my own results using it yet. A tiny amount on a soft cloth and polish it into the inside until it's clear again.

I tend to just leave it open a crack unless I'm on road with a higher speed limit.

Raw potatoe cut in half and then rubbed on the inside, left to dry and then wiped off is supposed to work well also.

I just use a pinlock or have the visor open a crack.

Fog City is the bollox. My visor never mists up regardless of the weather.
Bit pricy for what it looks like but 100% value because it works as it says on the cover.

My last visor fossilised, then cracked and broke from under-use.

Sometimes I used to leave it open two clicks down, and then peer out from underneath so my specs didn't get all rainy.
