Here goes.

Stupid, but oh well..

Using a pickaxe to dislodge a wooden stake by the barn.. (Concreted in)

When i swung the axe it went into the only soft spot, and smashed my finger between the handle and a brick.

After 3 days, its still as swolen as Day 1.. The blackness is spreading onto the finger.. And if i touch it, it feels like im getting an electric shock? and its constantly throbbing..

I Cannot bend it either, so i havent done that.

*Going to the docs or hospital is a no go either*

If its the nail thats fine its normal. The nail might even drop off. If its your actual finger though and it looks like gangrene I would start to worry.

Why is a doctor/hospital a no no?

See pics, its the nail and now the skin round it.

Docs or hospital is a no no, as ive moved to germany and my health insurance isnt sorted - and being as though ive registered here, i cant use a EHIC

Looks like it has a small bit of infection in it. Your body should fight it, but if it spreads furthur down then its anti biotic time.
If it feels hot to the touch then it is infected. Just the dead blood gone off. In the past i've used a pin heated under a flame and pierced the nail to let the blood out. Yours looks too dried(old) to do that now. You'll loose the nail..no biggie as a nails do grow back.
Keep it clean and monitor.

Pat
Nice shade of varnish on your other nail Smile

Apologies if you know this:
The black is just the blood, and a good place to test temp is gently touch your lip or cheek.

Thrive on the pain when you continously bang it against things Twisted Evil

Old trick to relieve the pressure is to heat a thin needle over a lighter and push it into the middle of the nail to release the build up of blood, whilst I've never tried it I've seen a few mates do it that way and also an old work mate do it with a pedestal drill...

Disclaimer...

I'm not suggesting you do this though, in anyway shape or form...

Edit, just seen it mentioned above, damn speed reading...

thanks guys, will do the needle tomorrow then

the only bit that concerns me, is the blood spreading down into the skin bits.

Ok...so you're thinking of relieving the pressure. Then you'll be needing Ice to numb. Pin and lighter. If you can bare it squeeze until either puss or blood comes out. And some antiseptic cream to squirt into the hole. It may not work if the infection carries on.

I have no medical knowledge BTW. Just lots of mangled fingers over the years. Laughing Still got them all tho.

Shocked Fuck the pin idea.

I would rather cut my finger off than stick a pin into my nail.

ive had the needle stabbage when i smashed my finger between my bicycle and a wall at high speed trying to jump it (was about 8).
Only hurt because the doctor used a solder and burnt the flesh. Plus i was 8 and a wimp.

The heat melts the nailz. Not pressure, so just stop when it hurts

I did very similar to my thumbnail a couple of years ago. For such a small injury, it really did hurt like hell.

Quick trip over the road to see my neighbour, who happened to be head honcho of A & E department round here...

Years of training lead him to heat up a paperclip to red hot on his hob, then put it through my nail to relieve the pressure. Honestly didn't hurt...just rest it on your nail, there's no real need to push.

The relief is pretty much instant, and lovely Smile

+1 for the hole in nail trick. It doesn't hurt and you will know when to stop because it will spurt. An hour after you will start to feel mucho better. Been there done that, several times.

So glad I work in an orrofice now.

I hit my nail with a hammer the other week, it throbbed like hell about 2 hours later. I have a fairly high pain threshold, but this was almost unbearable. My partner did the hot needle bit and even the next day it was still bleeding slightly but the pain had all but gone. Now I just have a bit of blackness under the nail which is gradually starting to grow out.

Just think, all that blood coming out is what had puffed your finger out. You have done no damage with the pin so you are simply still draining.

In summary - you hurt it good and proper. It will get better*.

* If your finger goes infected and falls off into your porrige then I accept no responsibility for your foolishness in trusting a forum to solve your ills.
