And recognise this?

I have a month to learn it on bass for an audition but I cannot read music. I've tried to put it into 3 different programs that will play it back but it doesn't seem to be making sense although I'm 100% sure this is down to my lack of music theory knowledge. From what I can gather it's in E? I know it's on the bass clef and I'm not inputting the notes onto a treble clef in the programs.

I've tried using Cubase 5 but I can't figure out how to edit the score easily to get the notes in properly. I've tried to tab it out using guitar pro but it just sounds weird and I'm currently trying noteworthy composer but it's just not making any sense.

Any help is gratefully received!!!

As its by S Hawkins could it be something by the Darkness perhaps?

I can read music to some extent, but I'm finding it hard to work out what it would sound like. It should be relatively easy as its in 4:4 time though.

I await the lovely 'Bella to tell us about it.

Ok quick lesson - the notes can be recognised by where they are on the lines or the spaces between the lines. From the bottom line (counting line, space, line, space etc) it's G, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A. If the note has a b next to it, it's "flat", if it has a # it's "sharp". Not sure about the guitar but on the piano a sharp is to the right of the note (black key), if flat it's to the left (black key).

You should be able to work out the notes from the sheet music using this and find something on line to play them from the note names - that'll give you an idea of the tune.

The rhythm you will have to guess at as I not going to attempt to explain it here Wink

Hope that helps.

Look up a program called cakewalk. It lets you make midi files by drawing the notes on. You can also convert to TAB or enter it in as a tab

Nein, they were Justin and Dan hawkins, neither of which was the bass player, for he was a pirate.

Well. I'm going to say - good luck with that one! I don't recognise it...

Starts with a syncopated upward phrase C -> F - > B down to a C#

Next bar, same upward syncopated phrase but C -> F -> C

Now the first bar again, but instead of holding the C# there's a fast little chromatic scale up (C# D Eflat)

Second bar again

Sounds similar to Guitar Pro, I've managed to get the first few bars into some programs but it just doesn't seem to be making any sense musically although like I say, it might just be my inability read music that's the problem although I've managed to make it look the same as the sheet music on the program Sad

Forgive me for sounding negative but:

If you have to do an audition using musical notation and you can't read the music, surely you won't do very well in the actual gig? Surely the gig will be based upon traditional musical notation?

Feel free to shoot me down if I'm talking nonsense.

Hey no worries! It's a long story but basically I applied for a university course which was music and recording techniques which concentrated on more on the recording and studio stuff but they reviewed my application and decided I'd be better off on a music degree with a foundation year which means I have to sit an audition. I have to play this set piece and something of my choosing and then sit a short theory exam. I'm 100% confident in my playing it's just the theory that I never got around to learning properly. I didn't need to sit any auditions for the recording course, just attend an interview hence the panic!

Anyhoo... I think I cracked it, It took me about 2 hours to transcribe it to tab but it sounds rubbish so I think I've either done it wrong or just don't appreciate jazz much! That's a midi file exported to mp3 by the way.
