In my R6 I ran 30 hot in both in Racetecs. I found they worked best for me. In my hornet I ran 30 cold in both on BT-002 Pros.
I ran 22 hot in the rear and 28 hot in the front of Power Ones (again on the R6) because of the stiff carcass that's what you're meant to run them at.
Personally I think unless you're hugely quick(which I am not) then 30 cold in both is decent enough. On my very first trackday I dropped my pressure on my Hornet down to 30 front 35 rear from 36/42.
There is no definitive answer to my mind. It depends so much on your tyres and your ability. I think organises mainly aim that comment at novices/first timers as most of the more experienced guys know what works for them. For people in the novice group then a 4-5 psi drop is fine (to be fair some I've seen could leave their pressures along and not get any issues).
The last thing they want to do is drop their pressures loads and then find they can't get enough heat into the tyre to get the hot pressure where it needs to be. ____________________ My Flickr |

For supercorsas I go for 35/35 hot, which tends to mean 31F/29R or so cold. For the Pilot race, it was recommended to run them a lot lower, as they had stiffer sidewalls.
As I've said before, the first 4th place I got at club racing was with tyres over 50psi, so until you're faster than a 4th place in clubmans minitwins, it's probably not worth worrying TOO much about .
Oh and serves you right for posting on Pistonheads . |

That definitely wasn't a tyre pressure issue... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
