More than just a cool idea! Its gotta be a dam sight more affective than that online petition thing us brits tend to prefer. Does my head in that the french will stand up for themselves but we (as a nation) will take it up the arse with nothing more than a whinge.

I'm sure that the average car driver while annoyed to be filtered passed, is more scared by the thought that if every bike was to take to a car, no one would never get home...

I fail to see how the police could ever enforce a no filtering ban in any of the major european cities.

I'm just wondering how they would enforce the giving of a ticket? Surely they could only catch them if they were following on a police motorcycle, and hence breaking the law in order to enforce it?

And where would the pull them over inside miles worth of traffic jams?

What's the French governments reason for fining bikes that filter?

I will give the French one thing. They are very active is showing dissaproval if laws are being thought of that they don't agree with.
We just send on line petitions and moan. Direct action oftain proves a point. Not being political the UK lost the will to action in the 80's, so now if groups strike or take action they are assumed to be the troublemakers. Ie BA cabin crew etc.

That is a really good read, it's good to see people actually going out and doing something in protest to stuff like this.

There are loads of bikers currently protesting like this in London. The next one is in a week I think. Lots of youtube videos around of traffic mayhem from slow moving motorbike processions because of the parking tax. Thumbs Up

It's how a protest should be done. Crap online petition, half of the names fakes, might have heart in them, but they are ignored.

I wouldn't take too much inspiration from the country that rolled over for a 100bhp restriction on bikes.

The cheese-eating surrender monkeys don't know how to do it right.

That's bloody brilliant, must have been hilarious (for some anyway) to see all those bikers in full gear on the metro.

Bizarre, surely being able to beat the jams is one of the main reasons to get a bike, particularly a city scoot. Somebody somewhere really has lost the plot. Moving through stationary traffic is no more dangerous than sitting in a queue moving at 15mph. Who's going to change lanes when they can't actually move?
(Heck, I'm sure there's been initiatives to get people on two wheels promoting that very idea).

Are they going to start stopping and fining pedal cyclists who do the same? I don't filter very much faster than I could pedal (on a machine with nasty rubber-on-rim brakes, no lights, horn, tyre width/tread or mirrors, vs one with discs and all the rest), after all.

Fuck off.

Filtering is a completely different kettle of fish to paying for parking FFS.
