Hi All

I'm considering getting one of these rear brake lights which integrate the indicators...

https://www.project-r.co.uk/images/CTL-0062.gif

Does anyone know about gettign a bike through an MOT with such a thing fitted, I think I read somewhere that indicators have to be a set distance apart, but not sure as I have seen a few bikes with these rear lights fitted.

It'll get through an MOT (should do unless you take it to a super strict place)

But they are illegal as far as I know and also can be hard to see. I had them on my old bike and to be fair didn't have any problems. One came fitted on my new bike but I'm going to remove it and put standard LED indicators on.

im sure there is a limit to how close they can be.. like 24cm or something?!
Cant recall, but im sure there was a post on here about that unit before..

Personally I dislike it, i'd rather they could clearly see what way im going, you know how car drivers are these days

They are illegal as I found out. Mine is a different model to the one but the same principal - I had mine on for a review but explained a bit about the legalities here:

Aesthetically they do look nice though.

Would look good on the ZX6R C1H which has the flush indicators on the front. Thumbs Up.

They aren't very safe IMO, they are hard to see during the day.

good read. thanks Thumbs Up

I guess when mot time comes you could just stick a pair of standard indi's in the usual place?

Thanks! Yes you could but then really what is the point of the integrated - you may as well just get clear LED brake lights and find a better way for the indicators to mount.

I have been told plenty of times that in certain conditions the indicators are difficult to see so you have to make the choice if they are worthwhile - I still have mine on but only because I CBA to sort out a new set of indi's.

Hi

Rules on the min seperation is here:-

https://www.opsi.gov.uk/SI/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_12.htm#nsch7

Quite difficult to read (partly due to poor formatting), but essentially makes them illegal.

Spacing isn't part of the MOT, but nothing stopping the police from doing you for it (which strangely would probably result in a defect ticket, to be signed off by an MOT station who are not meant to check the spacing......).

EDIT - just thought that they might well fail the MOT on another point though. Rear position lamp test includes that the illumination of each lamp is not affected by the operation of any other lamp or the horn, which having part of it turn off and become yellow should be a fail.

All the best

Keith

I meant just stick some std ones on to get it through the mot and then take them off again.
whilst they are on, disable the indis in the brake light so it doesnt fail on keith's last point

To be honest bud I am sure if you looked around you could find a decent set of indi's that could be stealth fitted properly on your bike and a clear rear light - fully legal all year round and no need to piss about adding things for the MOT.

That and you can actually have your indicators seen by other road users of course Razz

How can my RXS have an MOT them, even with a brand new fresh battery with the lights on everything dims if you use the horn and/or indcators/brake light. Laughing

I've had intergrated rear lamps/indicators on 3 different bikes. None of them failed an MOT or never been questioned about them when I've been pulled by the Police.

Indeed Mr. Green

I don't see no problems with visibility using them/following bikes with them.

A lot like many of the cars these days with the round indicators which are either inside the ring of the brake light or a ring outside the brake light....
Both of which are very hard to see once the brake lights come on.
