My friend has just informed me he is selling his Honda XR125.

2004
17k odd miles
Full Scorpion System
Alarmed
12Months MOT
Good condition.

= £1200.

The trouble starts where by I'm not sure if I want to sell my 2005(55) CG125, with 10k miles and a few scruffy bits to go towards buying this XR. (I'd sell it for around £600.)

I owned a XR125 for 6th months when I turned 17, it was brilliant.

The XR is 1 year older, has 7k more miles and is 600£ more than the CG is worth.

I'd still keep the Hornet and use the XR for a winter run around

What do I doooo?

EDIT: 1200£ seems quite expensive for it too?

Keep the CG, the XR isn't necessarily a better bike.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

£600 for the CG? seen a 1990 go for that on ebay not long ago!

Keep the CG mate, not worth the extra £ for the XR

Put it towards a test/training if you haven't already and buy a non 125cc bike - faster and cheaper as there is less demand for 125-500cc bikes Very Happy

I have a Hornet 600, but its too expensive for me (poor student) =P

The reason the CG isn't worth alot is because it has a odd mudgard, a fairly large dent in the tank and it was an unrecorded write-off.

For commuting, there is no point swapping one 4-stroke honda 125 for another one.
However, an XR125 could be fun to start offroading if you want to go down that route, although decent off road tyres would be awful on road.

all i know about the xr125 is that it vibrates a lot, easily locks the rear, and makes hugely loud killswitch backfires Cool

1200 way too much for a 2004 xr125. watch a few on ebay and see what they go for.

the xr is just as under powered as the cg.. so apart from the pitiful offroad ability they are essentially the same bike,
keep the cg, nought wrong with a old cg

From your signature you look to have a full license.

Why bother with a 125, I mean seriously I wouldn't be seen on one. 125s are for people who haven't yet passed their test, there is no other use for them.

I have passed my test and have a 750 but am also on the lookout for a cheap 125, probably something similar to what is being discussed in this thread for giggles and commuting.

Iv been thinking about getting an XR for a get to work bike.

Cg's are boring basically at least with the xr you can go offroad you will also find that as you sit so much higher it's a lot more comfortable.

And tim don't sell your hornet lol
