{V&bike}

Try and get some compensation (or money off the work) if they don't replace the panel and leave some kind of sign that it was broken.... it will lower the resale value if the buyer sees it so it's money not in your pocket Sad

I'm sure if you say your uncle works for RiDE magazine they'll be fairly reasonable about it, I am not sure about the legal side of it all but I would have thought that they need to put the damage right, as to how it was before, not just weld it or something like that.

I would be very tempted to do what Anna suggested and ask for it to be repaired or replaced to the highest standard, so nobody knows it has ever cracked, then once the work is done ask if it is free, if they say no ask them for a brand new panel rather than the repaired cracked one, I'm sure they'll give you at least some money off this way.

Leaglly the bike has to be fixed to the exact same condition or better than when it went in:) Or they get sued. You could ask for an entire new fairing panel and they'd have to give it to you.

Sorry to hear about the fairing Viper, but Demonic is right.
They are legaly obliged to restore the fairing to the same standard or better, a bodged fix or plastic weld is not acceptable. Tell them that you will give them a 'reasonable' amount to time to correct it (maybe 4 weeks to get the replacement fairing) after which you will take it elsewhere for the work, and will take them to the small claims court (if it's under £1000) to recoupe the costs. This should be enough to get them to do the work as it will be cheeper for them. Threatening them with Trading Standards may also help a bit.
Whatever you do, DO NOT agree to pay for ANY of the work on your fairing, and don't let them do your head bearing either (might be to late for that).
If you want to be sure of what you can and can't do, contact your local Citizans Advice Beurau - that's exactly what they are there for.
