Come and get me now Laughing

Pissed up last night, I sat in front of the TV and started the modding.

Tested by playing FFXIII for 10 mins, then quicklaunched to XexMenu to check the temps.

Most important one is the GPU due to the poor heatsink it has.

First job, X-clamps off, and old MS crud removed, heatsinks wet n dried, and a thin layer of silver arctic 5 paste, all bolted back in place.

next, an 80mm 35CFM fan for the GPU.
and a 40mm 20CFM for the secondary GPU.
at the rear a set of Talismoon 46CFM blue exhaust fans.

These were modded to run at 12v rather than 6v.

Result.

A little messy in this pic, but tidied up once refitting the case....
reflective shielding removed, and top shell modified to allow the secondary GPU fan to not get crushed.

Front facia modified so there's no gaping gap where the DVD drive should be.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/c8c955f5.jpg

500gb drive internalised, the grill then fits over the top. ( i need somewhere to fit another 250gb too)

All back together, SORTED

Thumbs Up

end result after a bit of stress testing.

You obviously missed the sarcastic tone.

Unlike some people, I coudn't give a toss about playing copied games or doing any of the sort of shit you do with 360's.

ive drilled holes in the case and currently run it without the bottom half of the shell... otherwise the graphics go spastic and it overheats!

You've got to laugh haven't you Laughing

The 360 has been out how long now, 3 or 4 years? Despite this, Microsoft have failed to fix the problem.

They have obviously acknowledged it by extending the warranty to 3 years for RROD but still haven't done anything to solve it (surely it's cheaper to prevent it than it is to repair/replace fucked consoles).

I've had my PS3 for almost 2 years and apart from it having a dicky fit for a few days trying to play Fallout 3, it hasn't missed a beat. We also get the tasty addition of a blu-ray player Wink

I've had 2 360's, one pre-hdmi premium and a hdmi premium and to be fair, neither of mine had any problems what so ever. But you still hear of the millions of people becoming victim of RROD Razz

So in the world of scat it would seem the PS3 is doing the shitting and 360 is doing the swallowing Wink Laughing

They did several revisions of the Xbox 360, starting from the Xenon, Zephy, opus, falcon and jasper. All ranging from various cooling mods like different sized heatsinks, secondary heatsinks, moving the ram chips etc.

Their latest and greatest is the Valhalla.

Due to them moving both the GPU and CPU into 1, it's rumoured that Microsoft may be releasing a Slim Xbox 360.

Fixed one of the boxes I picked up, grabbed another today as it came with brick and AV cable. Get there, apparently it's been flashed and had a previous RROD fix but is now playing up again.

OK, I think to myself. The brick is the main bit I want after all, the spare Xbox is a bonus. Just stripped it. Whoever tried to fix it last has used a homebrew X clamp fix with uneven washers then screwed it down so hard the spring washers have gouged the board. The best bit, after undoing the clamps and dropping the heat sinks off there is so much thermal paste on there that it's actually been forced out and across the board Shocked

Laughing people seem to think the more paste they throw on, the more effective it will be.

as for the screws being too tight, I experimented, forcing them as tight as they go set my temp to 61, loosening them off so they're just nipped up dropped it to 50.

Overtightening would just pull things out of line I' imagine, thus it doesn't seat as well.

I have a 360 Elite with the Jasper board. Apparently they run cooler than the older ones, but I don't know... It works, so I'm happy Smile

The one I have now is a Jasper I think. Rare to find such a new console with HDMI that can be Jtag'd. Hence the cooling mods so it never dies.
