Shes wanting to go to australia, then travel around, then new zealand, fiji etc etc...

Its basically a year out of work, Im sure i can arrange going back to the same job after that period too!

Has anyone else done this?

I did (lasted 6.5 months) , lots of people do, if you can go without risking your job all the better!

A few notes: GF/BF seldom last travelling that long as they see each other day in day out constantly even more so at home so they often fall out.

You may get bitten by the bug i.e. suddenly realise that life working is totally futile and be unable to return to work again.

The woman had 6-9 months out in Oz a few years ago, she has family out there too. Quite a few of my friends spent a year there for their gap year too.

They all enjoyed it, but from I gather travelling over there also frequently involves living in some hostel for over a month, not doing anything but drinking and living on dirt cheap noodles because you've run out of money.

One of them picked pineapples for 8 weeks, which made him almost the longest serving member of staff there.

Of course, if you go out there and don't like it, you can always come home.

well the friend im going with has family in brisbane, we were going to stay there for a week or so then head off around the country.

the money shouldnt be too much issue, shes working and saving the money and got some put aside, we'll probably find cheap option, like stay in same room, eat dirt cheap food

I would love to do that though, just go on a pure mission somewhere for a year. I'm one who needs to plan things though, I wouldn't know where to start and I certainly wouldn't just get some things together and head off. I would need at least 2 months of planning time and sort out finances.

I would say travelling somewhere else and living somewhere else are certainly completely different things. I would say I am fairly travelled but when I say that it's because I lived in america for more than one year and lived in asia for about half a year. You get to connect with people and make friends and experience things that you would not have if simply travelling.

Therefore, if this is really going somewhere else to live, work and experience another way of life (not just the travellers way of life) I recommend you take it.

Just to clarify...

Its purely a sightseeing trip... theres nothing going on with said girl, I would like the chance to travel with what time I have, being pretty young, able to still move around and being quite lucky to be graced with a bit of cash.

I wouldnt want anything relationship wise with said girl... shes an awesome friend, and i'd prefer it stayed that way...and no, im pretty happy to not smash her back doors in.. i'd rather get on with the sightseeing.

So yea no poon, just pure travelling, something ive always wanted to do, never had the cash nor the time...now I have both.

With that in mind, how is travelling to those who have done it, what things are there to take into account, obviously different currencies n that, im sure my bank card would cover most?
then theres the actual travelling visa? Do you need one of these.. if so how do you apply.
