He deserves it really, you've got to be pretty stupid to do it and then send photos of you using it on the road into the papers. And he pretty much suggests he's going to use it at some point with his own words.

No, fuck that, that's clearly not a firearm and the intention to cause harm is clearly not there.
How are you going to say he deserves a potential 5-7 year sentence for what is clearly one of his many pranks?
Have you not seen his YouTube channel?
Easy targets again, the police can follow up because it's a case where the law is clearly being broken, whether harm is being done or not.
But fuck the law, we don't want this man to be prosecuted,
Get the fuck real... 5-7 for an experiment?!

Nobody said the police are planning to jail him for 5-7 years because the police cannot pass sentance, it just means the law he's broken can hold a 5-7 year sentance if justified and as it's a firearms law that's going to be something like carrying a shotgun with the intention of using it. You say yourself he's done something illegal so what do you expect the police to do ignore it? They've simply arrested him for the offence he's committed, then a court will decide what to do with him, no doubt a slap on the wrist and a fine.

No you're right it is the role of the police to follow it up but you did say he deserves it, which I think is harsh..
Sure what he did was stupid and anyone could have seen the consequences but then those consequences and what he deserves are two very different things entirely. Karma

It is the role of the police to take action IF IT IS IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST.

Same as the role of the CPS (which IMO, is where this should stop) but they all too often go for what they think they can sucessfully prosectute for rather than what it is in the public interest for them to prosecute for.

He must have watched one too many action and comic-inspired movies. There will always be two different opinions.
