Pre Trip Checks

Hi,
I'm going on my longest trip so far next weekend, about 200 miles then back a few days later so nothing too long but enough on a 125.

What should I check before I leave?
Obviously chain oiled and adjusted, engine oil and lights (and petrol!). Anything else?

Also, what should I bring along with me - I've (now) got comprehensive breakdown cover so shouldn't need too much. I was thinking WD40, chain and engine oil, relevant few spanners, screwdrivers and sockets and some magic fixer (aka duct tape).

How easy is it to fix a puncture at the side of the road? Worth calling RAC?

its only 200 miles. dont do anything more than you would on a normal days riding.

Brake fluid and coolant, and tire pressures, seem to be the only things you've left off there.

Cable ties, Pliers, Tape, 2t?, small tools, just the ones that you use. (ie if you have a spanner set, no point taking 13, 15 and 17 if you don't have no bolts to fit them. )

Assuming your 125 has tubed tires, its fixable, providing you take inner tuber, pump, tyre leavers and tools to get the wheel off.

TBH you shouldn't need them. Chances are you will get a slow puncture if any, When i got one on the motorway once 130 miles from home i just pulled into every other garage and pumped them up.

Cash is always good, can get you out of all sorts of bother.

Just forgot the trick of the trade!

Take some money (a tenner, or twenty if you like) and put it into a ziplock sandwich bag. Masking tape the bag to the underside of your seat or wherever your bike's storage area is.

That way, you will never be stuck for money for fuel (or cigarettes).

Why would you need engine oil? If I was doing 200 miles on my RXS100 I might check the tyre pressures and ensure I have enought 2 stroke oil but that is it.

I would take a little tool kit and cable ties.

If you burning enough oil that you have to top it up after 200 miles, I wouldn't ride the thing.

A debit card, mobile phone, and recovery membership card are all I usually take.

i did 500miles last saturday with fuck all with me so 200 no problems..

All I carry with myself now is a spare inner tube and basic tools. That and break down cover, a mobile phone and spare money but I haven't really had to use it yet.

To answer your question, it normally takes a couple of hours for me to fix a puncture at the side of the road. It involves taking a wheel off, taking half the tire off, changing the inner tube, pumping it up as much as possible without a proper compressor and then getting to a petrol station as fast as possible.
