Anyone ever NOT done the lessons ..

I really want to get my full license sorted now , like yesterday . But I just cannot get the money together for the lessons Don't have enough to save any and that's the only way .

Was just wondering if there's anyone who tackled all these test hurdles without £££

I'm getting £500 and up quotes for just two days training around here , + a £300 deposit

I practice the moves in mod 1 and 2 all the time on my DT , also on my mates 660 ( in my carpark )

Also I just learnt test centres don't use their own bikes for tests , oh great does that put me back at having to book lessons ?

I had 2 lessons then the instructor started going over the same stuff,so i ditched him and put in for my test and passed,job done.

I had an hour before Mod1 and another hour before Mod2 at the cost of £25 per hour. Passed both first time...

i did my cbt which was good practice for mod 1 , bought a 125 and practiced all the manuevers for mod 1 and passed first go then put in for mod 2 for a week later and had 2hours before the test with the instructor i did the cbt with just to show me any bad habits etc and passed 1st go, cost me £50 for the 2 hours and that was the best £50 i have spent in honesty.
i would just go for mod 1 and see how you get on, the man i did cbt with wanted £500 for 2 days and test too and i figured i could fail the test 5 times and still save money, best to book the test then ask for a couple of hour so they cant fob you off into paying for a days training.

Yes (though not personally), absolutely loads of people did back in the old days. There were no lessons, no CBT, nothing. You just booked your test and away you went.

Then you could hop on ANY bike you liked...no restrictions, and a lot of them are still out there.

I only have a 125 so it wont be allowed on mod 2 , hopefully it gets me up to speed in time on mod 1

yes i used my own bike on both tests , why cant you use your 125 on the mod 2? i did but it means you are restricted to 33bhp for 2 years. which to be honest is prob a good idea for me anyway
i used a hyosung cruise for my test the only thing that is not allowed is a km only speedo..

I get the impression you're wanting to do DAS, I'm pretty certain that most (if not all) of the people who do their test without lessons do the A2 test rather than DAS.

People can easily practice for the A2 test on their own without the need for an instructor and for the A2 test people use their own bike if they've got a 125. You can't do any practicing for DAS without an instructor and using your own bike to do the DAS test is likely to be more hassle and more expensive than renting one from a training school (if you want to use your own bike then you've got to get it to the test centre and you've got to insure it, plus you've got to get your bike home again if you don't pass).

I did my A2 test without lessons, 7 years ago so it was just one test rather than mod 1 and mod 2. First attempt I messed up the U turn, second attempt I messed up something to do with lane positioning on a roundabout, third attempt I passed. At £45 for each test I reckon it was cheaper than having lessons as there's nothing to say that I'd have passed first time if I'd had lessons.

You should be able to book lessons on a hourly rate, ring around different training schools. What's the £300 deposit for?

Yeah full license is what I'm after , no point in messing about with restictions . So that's why I say it's useless for mod 2 , also I dont have a speedo at the moment lol

The £300 is a deposit on the bike apparently if I use a centres bike

You might want to try a different center mate. I just went from not riding at all to full licence for £700. That's CBT, Mod 1 & 2, training, bike hire, fuel etc etc.

I didn't have to pay a deposit, and they let me pay a bit at a time till i had enough to do each bit.

I think my DAS lessons were £25 an hour or £40 for a two hour lesson. That included the bike and use of their gear. That's 2007 prices btw.

So if I did my Resticted , and then decide to do my full test ( assuming I get bored of my 125 and wanted bigger than 33bph ) , do I have to redo my mod 1 , or will it just be mod 2 I need to complete again just on a bigger bike ?

Can you not spread the DAS lessons out? That's what I did, rather than go nuts over three or four days I learned over three or four months, lesson every week or two.

I never sat on a bike til the morning of my CBT either (apart from when I was 5, lol). Bought a CG125 and rode around for 2 months then booked my test (got cancelled due to bad weather, twice). About a month before the third scheduled date for my test, I booked a 2-hour lesson to make sure I wasn't an awful rider. Instructor said he was amazed how much I'd retained several months after CBT with no proper lessons.

Next day, the owner of the training school I did CBT/lesson with, called and said he had a spare test slot at the end of the week if I wanted to do the last day of a 3 day course he was doing. I felt obliged to take the day's training to get the test done quicker, but it was more just a fun day of riding around, didn't particularly learn anything new. Next day, passed the test first time, then bought a restricted Hornet.

2 year restriction is up in under 3 weeks

i never took any lessons for mod1 or mod2, took 2 attempts for mod1 and just 1 attempt for mod2, look at it this way. If you're aiming to save money, even if you fail a few times you'll have saved more than you would have spent on the training. GL with your test
