Damn RXS!
Riding around last night and I started hearing something that at first sounded like fuel sloshing in the tank (Just filled up to the brim)
and eventually it got worse, then I noticed the sound coming from roughly where the wheel was. Bike felt slightly hindered but not like the brakes were stuck on.
It sounded like my brake drum was acting as a tumble dryer to some unknown foreign object. Anyone ever came across things like this before? Didnt happen on the way to work, Just last night, and it went away after 10 mins.
I WOULD take the wheel off, but seeing as I use the bike EVERY day for a commute, I just havent got the time! =( I'll have to wait till the weekend...

Sounds like a piece of brake shoe came adrift. Quite a big bit if you could hear it as you were riding Shocked Probably not a spring as the brake very likely wouldn't work if that happened.

Don't order new shoes unless you're sure yours have had it (they might be in good nick and it could have been something else making the noise).

There shouldn't be any need to replace the piston. Judging by the speeds you're getting, the motor is in excellent nick and doesn't need touching. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

im agreeing with cows... Neutral
dont touch the engine... it seems fine.

Check the shoes.. take them off at weekend, the RXS has no brakes anyway, so using them until you get new ones should be fine..

How long to take the wheel off, 10 to 15 mins. Far better to do that now than risk a failure of the brakes and then being without a bike for weeks....

Yeah, But every time I take something apart, I find something horrific, that would have been fine if I had left it... =/ like a bolt head shearing off or something, It's just my luck! Everyone told me to stop tinkering, And that I shall! =P

No, we are saying take the wheel off and check the brakes... unless you want to end up in someones rear seats in their car.

Its worth it while we have some decent daylight hours in the evening, just whip the wheel off, check the drum over... if the shoes are shot, order new ones and ride either carefully or not at all Wink

And you plastered all over the road is not then.......

At least spend some time with the wheel up in the air spinning it round and trying the brakes.

Could have been something as simple as something stuck on the wheel.

As far as anything like brakes go, never take a chance. Thumbs Up

Well I rode to work on it today fine, Had the wheel in the air already, Sounds fine again... Wiggled, wobbled, everything.
No sound in there at all. And me being plastered over the road could be a minor inconvenience and may hinder my progress on my course to work.

Sometimes with drum brakes you can get grit stuck in them (though this usually means a grinding when braking). Still worth checking.
