Fully comp vs. TPFT

What views to you all have about insurance policies, if I get a Z1000 I'm faced with a £234 increase for TPFT compared to my ZX6R, or a whopping £1019 for fully comp!

Do you lot prefer the peace of mind fully comp gives or do you think it's a waste of money?

It all depends on the bike.

For a new Z1000 (or any bike worth more than £2k) I would go with comp. Anything worth less than £1k I would go with TPO.

Depends on the price of the bike. But if its a decent investment, fully comp, every time.

I can't afford to pay for it twice, so, if someone else will do for me paying them a set (smaller) fee, then that's a good thing.

Oh, and www.raceway.net do japanese parallel imports so it may be worth speaking to them about getting the bike.

If it gets binned and you've just gone to the hassle of flying over to the states to get it, import it back to the UK, have it registered and pay the tax.

Are you telling me the extra grand layout won't be worth avoiding the 6-7 grand payout of doing it all again?
Hmm, basic maths.

I'd sooner pay 1000, than another 7000. But that's just me! Wink

It's all about weighing up the cost of getting your bike fixed if you stack it against the cost of Fully Comp, the likelyhood of you stacking it, and the resultant insurance hike cos you've claimed.

I'm TPFT at the moment, but next year (presuming nowt happens between now and than) I'll have enough NCB to protect and FC will be very do-able.

There's no one answer really.

Im paying fc on my bike, its only £105 so it I wasn't too bothered going tpft.

Next bike will be just a "bit" more expensive so will probalbly say fc unless the quotes change ion the next 6 months.
£270 for a 600 didn't seem too bad.

I'd say it depends on your age and experience, I know for a fact I will only be going TPFT for a suzuki GS500F, when I am 17 with 1 years NCB. FC, just isn't do able at my age.

I like to think that having TPFT only makes me ride a bit more carefully.

Besides if I did have a smash that was my fault and was anything more than a few hundred quids worth of damage I probably wouldn't be that keen on getting the bike replaced/fixed straight away anyway.

Of course even it is someone elses fault the bike gets trashed they might not be insured so fully comp would be better in that case as TPFT you would be left to take them to court and maybe get awarded 2.50 a month for 5000 years if you can get it !

Driving without insurance is on the increase. You should also consider the cost of yourself in the decision. the NHS will pick up some bills but SSP does not go far. (You can income protection ans stuff though !)

Hi

I have fully comp on the Bandit which cost me around £200 (and now a touch more since it was tuned).

However I am not sure whether I would claim. It gives me the option of claiming, and I probably would if it was someone elses fault, but claiming for an own fault accident would loose me my no claims bonus and cost me my excess, so would be rather expensive.
