BT Broadband Accelerator (iPlate)

Anybody got one of these? The reviews for them seem pretty good, apparently add up to 1.5meg to your connection on average and improves stablility.

I already get 5.5mb from Orange, but hey, faster is ALWAYS better.

Mine is getting delivered today, apperently you can get them free from BT if you are a Total Broadband customer, if not it is fairly cheap anyway, I got mine from: -

Interesting, does this speed up all the lines in your house or only if you plug stuff into the master socket?

I have my router plugged into a different socket as it's next to the TV to wire my xbox and Blu-ray player in. The master is on the other side of the room.

It should speed up everything in the house as the change is done to the extension part of the master socket.

All it does is remove the Bell Wire if you still have one. You can just do this yourself. Take the front of the master socket off and make sure you only have terminals 2 and 5 connected. Pull out anything else.

im confused as to how it works...
I dont have BT, i have virgin fibre, but I have worked in exchanges.
I know the phonelines have been unbundled from "the slow stuff to the fast stuff" but your speed is usually dependant on location of you distance wise from the exchange.

It might remove noise the same way an RF3 plate does.. but im still confused how it works.

As Matt said. There's guides on-line that show you which wire to cut, which is all that this plate is doing. I think it removes redundant phone extension outlets.

Its not guaranteed. I saw no increase.

I was at work when Royal Mail "attempted" to deliver it. Have to wait 48 hours to collect it. Does it take that long to get back to the sorting office? Rolling Eyes

To be fair, it's extremely unlikely that anyone will ever notice if you remove the ring wire, unless they're using ancient phone equipment.

Heh I just had a go with some wire cutters, which was interesting my 132KB speed jumped to 275kb speed after cutting the wire. note I live far far away from the exchange.

I've had one in my drawer for months but as my internet is straight from the master socket (no extension) I doubt it would help at all. Smile

Take the faceplate off your master socket and connect your filter/router straight to the test socket. If you get a faster sync speed then one of these will help. If you have no extensions connected to the master socket at all, then it won't make any difference from what I can tell.

The i-plate just filters the 'bell' wire.

This wire can end up all over the house picking up interference and ruining your broadband.

You can acheive exactly the same thing just by disconnecting your bell wire in your master socket. 'tis worth a google.

Incase you're wondering, the bell wire isn't really used anymore these days.

Picked it up today.

Speed before: - 5.5meg
Speed after: - 6.3meg

Can't complain with that for a fiver.

Like someone else said, cannot believe the ISP's do not give this out free, it would stop so many complaints.

Disconnected my bell wire, didn't make a difference. Still only have a poxy 3mb speed on an "up to 20mb" package. That's connecting the router direct to the master socket, via the filter.
