Now if only you'd moved it a foot to the left and put it on the slab, you'd qualify for "leave no trace" camping Smile

That was my initial idea ... but the problem is that the crown of the piston is domed ... one would have to make a stand ... or perhaps rest on say 3+ washers/nuts ... but that would get a bit wobbly/fiddly .... hence just pushing it into the mud a bit and singeing my grass!! Embarassed

It's the sort of coffee i'd leave until it got cold and pretend i'd forgotten about it if someone gave it to me. Listen to Silky and learn, even coffee should look like that.

Meh, tasted nice ... but then it did take about 10 mins to make!! Wind helps fuel the fire, but also cools off the alli kettle too!! Rolling Eyes

My recommendation is that all piston stoves should be used inside (a tent) only .... Thumbs Up

How did you manage to get it to burn so dirty?

I mean, you have what is essentially an open meths burner yet the flames are sooty yellow, even when there is no pot on top of it. That should be chemically impossable.

I presume it must have picked up a load of oil up off the piston and is burning that.

Firstly, there was plenty of carbon on the underside of that piston!! Very Happy

Secondly, I used a 'wick' (cut up bit of old t-shirt) as it was hard to get going in the wind .... once the piston/fluid was hot enough, I could have probably done away with the wick, but meh!! Wink
