Launchy - it's brilliant.
Pidgin - MSN/Yahoo chat replacement

p.s. Spotify is only free if you can get an invite. Those are pretty few & far between at the moment.

I've got all of those. Thumbs Up My ABP is an add-on for Firefox though.

The only one I can think of is GIMP which is basically a free photoshop.

Yeah, because the bloated pile of shite that is iTunes is the only media player that has playlists, shuffle and repeat... Rolling Eyes

Tell me what is wrong with iTunes apart from it being an apple software. I can't find a single fault and I've been using it for years

DVDsoft - Youtube To MP3 Converter

Copy/paste Youtube song links into this programme & it'll convert them to MP3, sound quality is really good & you can do quite a few at one time, you can also choose different sound quality.

1. Size. The install is 93Mb. Sharepod's install is 2Mb. Sharepod handles playlists, shuffle, repeat. In the context of your statement "I don't see how some people still play song by song", iTunes is massive overkill.

2. The store. I want to play my music, and manage it on my media device. If I want an online store, I'll go online, and I'll use my browser for that. I don't want my media player doing it.

Sure, it's fine for your everyday PC user. So is Norton.

You missed ou the fact that it sucks the life out of RAM if you are trying to do too many things....

I can understand it taking up processor power, but why the hell are you taking up graphics power too, you pile of crap?!

Ohhhh I have thought of somehtinng else I don't like about it...

Why dont they just patch it when a new version comes out instead of having to dowload the entire bloody thing again?! If it was every 6 months for a 'new' version, then fine (although still excessive) but sometimes it's every month....

Soulseek + FreeRIP

The best P2P network available for music (if you like to download a whole album at a time, it's the only place other than torrent to get some really rare albums etc). They've just released a patch so it now works more effectively with XP SP2 and SP3 and also Windows 7. Upload your CD collection with FreeRIP and start sharing.

How about, when you load your albums in, it rearranges everything, creating individual folders for each tune, instead of leaving it up to the user?? Rolling Eyes

ITunes also thinks its very clever, and far more clever than the user and thus goes off and fucks things up of its own accord. It doesnt do things the easy way ever.

Its also the musical version of AOL. It seems to take over everything and thinks its most important. You put any media into the drive and its in the background shouting 'Oo oo oo I cant do that, Pick me pick me!!'. Its an utter arsehole. Itunes is by far the worst part of Ipod ownership for me.

Oh an Apple are utter scumbags too.
Thumbs Up

Foxit actually has some iffy issues wherever I use it, in that the search functionality on bigger documents doesn't always work properly. Nor does it display what fonts are embedded into your documents if you happen to see an interesting one and want to filtch it.

Google Chrome - best browser. Simple yet customisable.

General

Ccleaner - cleans out unused files from your pc, makes it quicker if you haven't done it in a while.

CS fire monitor - system stats tool. I just have the CPU usage in the system tray which is quite useful to see when your pc is doing something it shouldn't.

(for XP) Tweak UI, little program that lets you change settings deep in the heart of XP.

Gmail notifier - fairly obvious what that does

Auto power on shut down - i can set it to turn my pc on at night or turn it off at certain times

Auto hot key - press a button and it will run a sequence of actions whether it be a pre recorded macro or opening files or clicking a button.

Speedfan - controls fan speed inside your pc

maxmem - little icon on your system tray, click it and it clears your ram as much as it can without affecting anything you are doing. Stops you needing to reboot when you feel your computer is getting slow.

Reg seeker - best registry cleaner out there

Unlocker - If windows won't let you move/copy/delete something, just run unlocker on it and all restrictions will be removed. Very useful.

Media

Daemon tools - best image mounting software

ac3 filter - sound program for adjusting sound levels.

mptrim - very useful program for trimming mp3's down. Highly recommended.

ffdshow codec pack - contains most codecs you will need.
vlc media player - combined with ffdshow you shouldn't need any other codecs ever.

OJOsoft total video converter - can convert any video type to any other type pretty much. All major types supported. Even avi-mp3 if you just want sound.

DVD shrink - rips dvd's
Slysoft Anydvd - removes copy protection
VSO Convertxtodvd - does exactly that, converts almost any type of video to DVD and burns it. Can even put menus on the disc!

Nirsoft video cache view - lets you view any videos you watched in your browser e.g. YouTube videos and you can just copy them to an easier place to access on your pc.

Protection

AVG
Malwarebytes
Superantispyware (best one imo)

Your Freedom - local proxy service. Allows me access to blocked websites if I am blocked.

MW snap 3 - screen shot program, you can pick where on the screen you want to snap. Quite useful.

cam studio - full screen capture software, very easy to use, just click where to record e.g. whole screen or partial then record. Saves as avi or swf files.

Desktop

Rainmeter - desktop widget software, quite good but can be heavy on ram and cpu
Rocketdock - completely customisable short cut bar (like you see on the bottom of mac screens) So useful!

I have loads more but they are things most people know

winamp
nero
meta trader 4 (forex trading platform)
msn
spotify
audacity
macromedia suite
office 2k3
quicktime
filezilla
foxit reader (pdf reader)
