Nothing to do with me, but I saw this on another forum and thought it was worth posting here. Another biker falls victim to the thieving scum, but in this case a particularly talented one.

On Wednesday night some lowlife broke into Dean Banks van which was loaded to go racing. They stole all his tools and a nearly new generator. They attempted to steal a new, tuned engine, but instead dropped it on the green, where it lay in the snow and filled with water, so it will have to be stripped and rebuilt. The total cost of this theft to Dean will be around £6k, and it's unlikely any of the goods will be recovered.

Dean Banks was best sidecar newcomer last year's TT, and with 57 days to go it doesn't look as if he will be there this year. Please help in any way you can, and to start the ball rolling....
For sale, with all proceeds going to Dean Banks to help replace the goods stolen from him......

Looks like Dean will be watching this year. Bad times.

I'm sure it'll sort itself out, but you have to question why he had no alarm on his van and the contents were only insured for £500.

Alarms on vans don't help much at all unfortunately, bet he is regretting not covering the contents properly though Sad

The cost of getting your van insured to cover a load of random bike parts is pretty nasty as far as I know.
Similarly, it's not too nice to get the bikes insured to be covered while anywhere but in your locked brick built garage.

I do think some of it is being sensible - one of the reasons I've never been tempted to stick decals on the van and try and keep it looking as little like a 'race van' as possible.

Never thought of it like that. £10k of insurance for a mobile garage must be horrendous. I had a quick look and it appears that there is only one company that offers it.
