safe ways to carry a pillion with epilepsy?

hi, wanting to try my girlfriend out on the bike as pillion. however, were both a bit concerned to if it will be safe due to her having epilepsy.

is there a safe way of doing this? as shes not seizure free, so would need some sort of (i take the piss saying shes needs velcroing to me) fastening device sort of thing..

and, is it even legal?

bit concerned as shes "clonic tonic" so the seizures involve dropping.... and i wouldnt want her dropping off the bike

dont think its legal! but just ratchet strap her inplace and get on with it! if she fits violently u realy dont want that half way round a bend i mean you could damage your bike!!!!!! oh and yeah she might fall off. But the bike !!!!!!!!!!!!!! if she has the kinda fits that just invlove blanking she will be ok

I'd seriously avoid it, it would be crazy if she started fitting properly. Maybe just go in a straight line with her on the back, and strap some pillows to her, and the bike. You got crash bungs??

You might you get distracted by making sure she is ok, rather than concentrating on riding injuring you both..

I personally wouldnt try it, but i mean if she doesnt fit often, fit her with a skid lid, lots of pillows as said

i know bcf has never been the most serious of places... but i do actually want to take her on the bike.. if possible/safe obviously.

yeh, she has months without fits but then days, like yesterday when she has 2 in a day.

just wondered if anyones other half was epileptic and went on the bike...

life can be a bitch sometimes and i think this is one of those times.
first thing is safety and if you cannot give a cast-iron guarantee of safety, then dont take her on the back. .
It`s not her fault but if things go wrong on the bike she could be killed! and may even end up killing you also .

doctors wont sign an epileptic drivers license unless they have been seizure free for two years.

I'd say the only options would either be a trike fitted with a proper 'bucket' seat with proper straps, or in a sidecar.

Does she get any 'warning' before she has a fit?
If she does, then work out a way for her to inform you and hopefully it should be ok.
If not, I could see some issues - especially if you were involved in an accident, whether or not the epilepsy was the cause and there was the question if there was extra injury because of some sort of restraining device.

Seriously though, if she can't tell when a seizure is likely then you are both playing with your lives.

The only safe'ish method would be a cradle of some sort on the bike which she can be strapped in to, that way it'll support her if she passes out. You also need to think about something to keep her feet on the pegs as well!

Does/has she ever fit in a car? Front seat/back seat? I'd expect it'd be nearly the same as getting on the back of the bike.
