A £1000 should be fine. Take a passport with you just in case. I've had mine photocopied before when taking out larger amounts. That's with Barclays.

Should be no problem for that amount.

I drew just over £2k cash out a couple of months ago and other than the cashier going into the backroom to see a supervisor about it there was no problem.

Always take ID (with proof of address) though.

I took out £3500.. just had to ring them the day before so they could make the funds available.
But for £1000 they should honor quite easily.
Take driving licence or passport with a previous statement to be sure.

Ah, ok will do cheers guys. I was more concerned about me not having my card more then anything. I haven't got a passport, got a full provisional driving licence. I'll also bring a bank statement and something else with my address on it, should be ok.

Try walking with 3.5k... stupidly I decided to get it in town, rather than one out of the way.. was paranoid Laughing Laughing

Prov driving licence is ok, its ID isnt it! Just take a utility bill and previous statement. You will be fine, i often visit the bank with no card.

depends on the bank, but i know mine (halifax) will allow me to take £1200 over the counter and £300 out of a cash machine in one day without giving prior notice. Anymore than that they ask you request it a few days in advance.

I just make sure i have photo and proof of address with me - usually driving licence (both parts) and passport

I do too, in these situations I ask the cashier to roll the noes up as small as possible and put them in one of the plastic coins bags, then it's straight down my pants before I leave the branch, they're very obliging if you ask 'em nicely Wink

I withdrew a few grand once , I crapped myself walking around, everyone looks like a muggers and you look like a paranoid wreak. Then you cant sleep unless you spend it in case someone breaks in your house and steals it from your bedroom while you sleep so you dont sleep. Or perhaps some wipe their asses with £1000 here but to me a few grand was precious and burned a hole in my hand.

Ive had no problem taking £1000 from natwest - just take all the ID you can find.
I tried with HSBC and they wouldnt allow it - 24 hours needed - Wasnt happy because it delayed my buying a new toy!

Nationwide usually need a few days notice, and the max they give out in cash £5k IIRC.

Phone the bank coz they might need a days notice. I had to give a day when I withdrew 4 grand a few years ago. There's new 'money laundering' regs nowadays that they didn't have back then too.

Phone them and order it. You can ask for it to be available in any bank anywhere across the country too. When I bought my bike oodles of years ago, I requested that the money be available to withdraw at the closest bank to where I was looking at the bike.

Meaning I didn't have to carry it around with me until the deal was done. Thumbs Up

Take lots of ID with you. They may not give you that amount of money without the card unless it's run past the manager so be prepared to wait a while & also to walk away without any cash.

Generally without a card and 2-3 pieces of ID they will let you draw £300 MAXIMUM, though it varies from bank to bank.

Most banks will allow people to withdraw up to £1000-1200 without prior arrangement. Over that they will need 24 - 48 hours notice as they dont keep /that/ much cash on site.

Have you ordered a new card yet? If not do so now! It will show up on their system that you are waiting for a card and they may be more willing to give the money out.

I withdrew £1,900 from the Post Office, they didn't even ask for I.D just had to phone my bank to phone the Post Office an hour earlier to make sure they had enough money there.

That's one good thing about Alliance & Leicester, you can use the Post Office to put in/take out money.

Might be the same for all banks in the Santander group.

I think nationwide need notice for more than £1500. When I took out about £4k I took a passport, driving licence (both parts), and utility bill.

If you are going to take it all from hole-in-the walls you might get your card blocked. This happened to me in February when my wife withdrew £300 3 days running.

Im leaving HSBC because they keep messing me about. Theyve told me I cant withdraw more than 5k per day, which is fun because I need to empty my 20k+ savings account to my new bank account. Going down to have a chat with them tomorrow about it.

On second thoughts though, they let me take out 8k with a days notice when I bought my BMW a few years ago. Must have changed policy.

When I got a 10k loan I had to wait 5 days for the cash to go into my account.
