I had a boring commute on public transport ahead of me so I popped into the local newsagents and spotted this mag. As none of this months bigger named mags had anything interesting in, I delved in.

I'm actually quite impressed. The 'family tree' sections of various bikes is interesting. The bikes featured are actually interesting and accessible to the majority of us. Also the workshop bit has some interesting 'how to's' and restorations.

Only thing I didn't like was it could have been a bit more in depth on the bikes it featured.

Here's a free sampler.

Anyone else bought a copy? What are your views?

Before anyone suggests, I am not some 'cheap holidays' spammer!

Picked it up for a read on my lunch today, not a huge amount of meat in it but it had some interesting bits in there. For a spanner numpty like myself the DIY stuff looks fairly useful, it could probably do with a little more detail on the workshop stuff and a little less gushing over some of the old metal though, but eh, it's not that bad a read Thumbs Up

I only read Bike but I'm starting to get a bit bored with it and want something else. I might have to pick a copy of PSM.

Practical Performance Car is very good.

The bike version may have less variety, but I like the concept.

I ended up getting a copy whilst I was having some food in the canteen. It does have some useful hints and tips with regards to servicing. Bear in mind, it mostly focuses on 70's-00's machines so it's pretty good.

Had a wee flick through and it looked ok, my type of magazine rather than the usually latest and greatest reviews on bikes I can't afford or want Laughing Didn't buy it though, as someone mentioned, not very meaty.

There's a new (I think anyway) Weekly Dirt Bike "newspaper" too, part of MCN though so not sure how good it'll be, bit expensive as well for a weekly thing.

No, but I used to have a formidable collection of Practical Photography mags in my youth Laughing

It's my favourite bits of all the other magazines put into one, I like it a lot, though issue 1 has covered pretty much all the most seminal sportsbikes, so fuck knows what they'll talk about in the next ones

As it's an MCN spin off, I reckons the MCN site'd be a good first stop.

edit: there's no nowt on the site, which is a bit odd! I'll scan the relevant page in when I can be arsed to fire up the desktop.

I picked it up the other week, mainly because it had a whole section on the CBR600F's. It's a bit thin, but they managed to not mention the VFR1200 once, which was a refreshing change!

I've been looking everywhere for this! Saw it advertised in Bike magazine. Where can I buy it?

Looks a lot like Classic Motorcycle Mechanics (my kind of mag), may pick this months copy up.

EDIT: Interesting that in the magazine they recommend leaving a bike ticking over until it's up to temperature Confused

Agree, it has gone a bit wayward. I've just bought the latest issue which has undergone a bit of a revamp but to be honest it's not very interesting and whoever is in charge has decided to make lame attempts at humour on every page. It was very good until recently when, as you say, Rod became ill.

Probably the last copy I'll buy for a while. Neutral

I bought this last week, or the week before.....

I really like it. I know there wasnt "much meat" in it and it is quite heavy on the advertising but it is the 1st issue and they have to fund it some-how. I enjoyed the fact that it does what it says on the tin, being practical and all that.

Defo looking forward to the next issue, as it can only get better.
I hope those who own older bikes take to it and help with the content. I have already sent in a pic of my ZXR400 with a list of mods too.

VD have done a good job IMHO. Hope they keep up the good work.

9,000 Shocked

Do you want to send me a few?

When I go to Stafford I tend to pick up old issues for £1 each.

Funny you should ask this today, as earlier today i got this email from my local WHSmiths:
"Just to let you know that your magazine 'Practical Sportsbikes' arrived this morning. Ask at the till and it will be kept for you."

Then again if you want a copy, seems its a good excuse to go for a ride Karma
