Just to confirm, scam?

EDIT: I THOUGHT I WAS POSTING IN THE RANDOM BANTER SECTION, COULD A MOD MOVE THIS FOR ME. THANKS Rolling Eyes

Dear Offer,

I am Brice Peters Esq, a legal practitioner practicing in the state of Lome in Togo. I am the family attorney to (Mr. F.Offer),a national of your country. Mr. F. Offer died with his family in an auto accident On the 10th of November,2005.

I have made several attempts to locate any of Mr.Offer's relatives, all to no avail. I have contacted you to claim the estate of Mr. F.Offer valued at US$9.5million since you share the same last name.

The bank has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have his funds pushed into the government treasury.Upon receipt of your response i will give you the details of this transaction.

I have all necessary paperwork required to back you up for the claim.

Note that this claim is legitimate.

Please confirm your contact telephone number and get back to me by email using my regular email address; (brice.peters@hotmail.com ) (anchorasso@gmail.com) to enhance our communication.

I await your prompt response,

Have a Nice day.

Best Regards,
Brice Peters (Esq).

Send him a reply and got this...

Good to have you. I write in responce to your message.

Note that this claim is legitimate as it will undergo normal processing in line with the financial and allied matters law. For detailed information about our law firm you can visit our website : www.anchoroffices.com

I consider it expedient to give you the details of this transaction.

I contacted you for this claim based on the recommendation of the private search agency that gave me your contact email address. This information is highly confidential.

When my personal efforts to locate any of my late client`s relatives yielded no result i hired the services of a private search agency who did the search and recommended you.

Mr.Frederick Offer was born in 1944.He was a civil engineer and executed construction projects for the government. He had a wife named Stella and a daughter named Amanda.Unfortunately all died in an auto accident on November 10,2005 when they were coming back from a family picnic.

Note that Mr. Frederick Offer died with his wife (Stella) and only daughter (Amanda) in the auto accident and left no named relative to inherit his estate.

Mr.Frederick Offer operated a bank account with Premier Regional Bank Lome Togo (www.prbonline.com).

When my late client (Mr. Frederick Offer) opened the account with the bank ,as a rule, in compliance with the inheritance law in this country he left three security information called "security confirmation" in the event of death.

The requirement is that as the next of kin you must provide this information before the bank will approve your claim and release the funds to you.

As the personal/family attorney i have the security confirmation but i cannot claim the funds because i am from this country and this is contrary to the legal professional ethics regarding client-attorney relationship.

Trust, sincerity and confidentiality is very important in this transaction considering the amount of money involved. Money matters require absolute trust, sincerity and confidentiality for the security of parties involved.

I am concerned about the safety of the funds when it is released to you. The total sum of USD9.5M will be released to you.You will be entitled to 50% of the total funds as the next of kin, 30% will be used to finish Mr.Offer's foundation project while i will earn 20% legal fees for my participation in this transaction. The 20% legal fees is in line with the professional rule guiding the execution of estate of this nature in this country.

It is important that you get back to me let me know your decision before i go to the bank to fill out the claim application form and apply for the claim on your behalf.

Reach me directly on my cellphone 00(228)9927913. Note that the (228) is my country code.

I await your prompt response

Regards,
Brice Peters (Esq)

Too good to be true = scam...

Well most of the time anyway! As I thought somebody who kept phoning me was scamming me, but she owed me £500 for some work I did for her but I kept thinking it was a scammer. She eventually started to swear at me over the phone then I realised who it was.

The cellphone will be on a premium-rate number, probably around $50 a minute.

I love those scams. I mean those fuckers needs to be punished hard.
Keep replying to him. Use only emails. NEVER GIVE HIM YOUR REAL NAME OR ADDRESS OR ANYTHING REAL.
at a certain point, he probably will ask you to send some money over to start the legal proceeding or some bullshit like that.
then you will tell him that to do so you need a picture of him just to be sure who he is. If he's English is shite tell him to hold a poster with this write on: Hello, I'm a dick. ( u can upload the picture later for fun) also you can try to tell him that you are now in financial difficulties and you need something like 10 20 pounds sent to you to start. he can use papal to pay you. ahah Let's see how develops.

This has to be the latest scam as I have received the very same e-mail but with my second name instead.

I doubt I even need to say this as you've had the sense to double check its authenticity but don't reply to the e-mail as they will then know it is active and sell the details to other spammers.

These things have been going around for a while, I'm forever getting African princes wanting to transfer $80billion into my account if he could just have the details. That one is written a lot better though so I can see how you thought there was a chance it was legit. Rule of thumb is if its important, it will come via post Smile

I recieved the same e-mail yesterday but with a different name. I jokingly replied to it. Note i have sent this person NO DETAILS WHATSOEVER. This morning, my mother, who i do not live with recieved a phone call and a text message both on her mobile phone from the person (Diddier Koussai) who asked for my bank account details. Of course she didn't give them to him, but i want to know how the hell he got my mothers phone number. I am very concerned he knows this. I asked him how he had the number and he replied saying he had very good contacts. I know damn well this person is a scammer but i am very worried he is spying on me and my family. Should i call the police?

lol

Just ignore them, they're not spying on you or your family. Have you run spyware checks on your computer? Once you know your computer isn't infected with anything bad that would mean everything you type gets sent to the scammers, change your passwords and stuff like that. I expect that they've got your mums contact details either from your email account, address book on your computer, or something else on your computer.

This is quite a good example of why it's a bad idea to reply to these people at all!! Initially you and your email address are nothing, you're just another person and email address on their lists of thousands of people. But as soon as you reply, you're not just another nobody, you're actually reading their emails and replying to them. That makes you a much better target than the thousands of email addresses that don't show any signs of life.

Ok, thanks. He has sent me a message with something attached which i'm not going to open, but ignore. If he hassles me or any of my family, i will be threatening him with police action. Thanks Smile
