PostPosted: 18:38 - 05 Apr 2010    Post subject: White Goods World Record? Reply with quote

I was born in 1975, my brother in 1972.

At some point between the years(they are uncertain of exact dates), my parents purchased a Hotpoint tumble dryer.

I inherited that tumble dryer about 10 years ago after my em & pee decided to upgrade.

Today, that tumble dryer made the sad, final trip to the local tip after (at least) 35 years of faithful service.

During its life, it has never, ever required a replacement part, and the only reason i junked it was because the motor/frame bracket had given up the ghost and made the drum belt slip.

By modern, disposable consumer goods standards, surely this must be some sort of world record? Are there any BCFers who have 'family heirloom' white goods with a better record?

We have one of those old school spin dryers that get bought out if the machine machine breaks. It's older than me and I'm 21, so I guess it must be about 25 years old. Still going strong. Thumbs Up

like this but cream with brown lids, she still uses it and has to use a "boiling stick" to stir the clothes when they are being washed.

What do i win?

An ancient 600w microwave can be seen in this picture.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/57187696.jpg

It's older than me (18) and possibly my sister (22). Once saw a newspaper article with a guy next to the exact same microwave claiming it was one of the first every microwaves to come out and it was over 40 years old Laughing

Hi

We have a Panasonic TV around that still works from the days when Panasonic badged their stuff National (presume because plenty of people wouldn't by anything from something that sounded like a Japanese company). Think it is from about 1974 but not sure.

We have one of those and still use it. You can still get parts and there are people who will restore them when they start to wear out.

All the best

Not a piece of machinary but my mums friend had a dog that was 18 years old. Not 18 dog years, actually 18 years. That's a fucking long time for a dog, I've never heard of anyones dog living that long since. To be fair, before it died, it was fucked up with it being so old, cold hardly see and had arthritis.

Chap i work with had a 22 year old cat. It had no health problems and would probably have lived a few years more had he not reversed over it in his car.

I bought this little gem when I first set up home in 1989 from a car boot sale for 50p. I still use it now when making cakes and my favourite chocolate Angel Delight - om nom nom!! Laughing

https://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr344/Tonkatoo_2008/th_DSC01112.jpg

My Mum is debating a new washing machine (bought in 1987) as hers has stopped heating the water. It still works ok and I guess it's pretty eco friendly washing on cold - brrrrrrilliant!! Rolling Eyes

She's been told by a repair man that it isn't economical to repair and to buy a new one. I think he probably wanted to add 'stingy old cow' but he didn't!! Mr. Green

I think its more to do with what the beard is hiding. Wink

It depressess me hugely when an 18yo announces their microwave is positively ancient because it's a year or two older than they are. Please have some consideration for those of us who predate even your mums microwave.

Thanks.

Wink

PS: Point of order, your microwave isn't over 40 years old, I remember the dawn of the microwave and I'm sure I'm not that fucking old. Shocked

Old Thread Alert!
