this isnt my laptop so just have a vague back story.

guy buys a copy of norton on ebay and it comes with a disc and a printout of the codes which i think is a bit dodgy but its been installed and worked ok. then after a while it wont go online. norton was uninstalled (but left behind some icons), and still wont go online. because it hasnt fully uninstalled i think that may be causing an issue.

anyway, apart from the usual, repair connection, renew IP, plug into the router, none of which worked, i have reset the winsock catalogue both through command and through a fix downloaded online but still doesnt work. i tried a restore initially which made no difference.

so i dont know whats wrong.

the wireless still connects to the router (ive tried 2 and they both connect) and has alot of info there, IP, subnet mask, MAC.

so i dont know whats going on. anyone got any suggestions apart from wipe it clean?

also windows firewall is turned off and i cant see any other security that would be stopping it. ive also used Ccleaner to clean up the registry to no avail

cheers

Just a suggestion, have you tried trouble shooting the router ?

Possible DNS issues or connectivity. Try re-configuring the router and checking the settings to connect to the internet.

Update firmware on it?

I've had problems with IPv6 and Vista before with some routers so I always disable it.

its sorted now. it was either a problem with norton not being uninstalled properly of Dell Quickset. or a combination of both.

i used a norton removal tool from symantec to get rid of it completely.
