i'm in the markets for a "new" car, i need something with rear seats, a few toys i.e. elecy front windows and to look ok.

the clio seems to fit the bill, road tax on the Diesel range is only £35 a year too, same as my smart which would be great.

any one own one? got any opinions on them, what to look for etc?

can you tow a small trailer with one? would towing a gsxr with one be out of the question?

general opinions would be great.

our lass has one on a 53 plate, shes not had any problems with it, it seem quite nippy and she gets good MPG from it but she drives like a fanny.

hers isnt fitted so i cant comment on its ability to tow, but all in all she seems pretty happy with it

just missed out on another one, £2k top of my price range, but it was a top of the range one.

i think the low tax and high mpg is driving prices up way too high, £4k for some examples, i'd rather have a 172/182 for that money. might even get a 197 if you were lucky.

i might need to find a nice garage for a test drive Wink

Ugh.

I had one. 51 plate 1.5d bought it with 45k miles. By 48k it had disintegrated a crank bearing and shot the remnants through the sump on the M1. Thankfully got it repaired under warranty. Then the anti roll bar fell off. Rear wheel bearings went, interior trim fell apart etc etc etc. Eventually the rear wheels just let go going round a corner slowly in damp conditions, due to having better tyres on the front and it having a super light rear. Caused loads of damage and yet the ins. co. still repaired it (much to my dismay). Sold it straight away, hated it.

However when it did work it was quite good - got 60mpg on the motorway, and it towed my Hornet to a fair few trackdays very well - it tows well for a 1.5.

If you somehow manage to get one that doesn't self destruct they're good cars. If you get one of the other 99.99% then you're screwed.

Renault.....
Stay away Hand

Shocking reliability and a ballache to get the right parts for.
You might get lucky and get a good one, but chances are you wont.

Get the 80Bhp one (one blue letter on the side badge) better gearbox over the 65 and 100 bhp models.

65Bhp one is okay but no intercooler, a lot more sluggish when compared to the 80, 100 model is rare and the ones that are there had gearbox issues (used a naff gearbox out of the old Laguna).

Wouldn't get one with over 70k on and certainly wouldn't get one thats not got full service history.
