Is what true?

My response was

with regards to the letter, there are several points that i would like to convey back to the originator.

1. all our bikes are 100% legal with respect to the legal noise limits
2. bikes rev when the choke is on, this minimizes the risk of a bike seizing up if ridden when cold.
3. if the originator is willing to pay for the damage to my engine that will be caused by not warming up correctly then by all means i will gladly destroy the engine.
4. our bikes only make more noise than a car when we are travelling at high speeds.
5. no-one is stupid enough to accelerate quickly while on my road, or the other Road, as there is not a lot of space and could cause a fatal accident.

You know what the best response to that letter is, don't you?

Get a 2-stroke with a particularly annoying can. That'll really give them something to complain about Wink

Hi

Afraid I would say that the letter you have been sent is fairly polite and factual. Whether what you are doing is legal or not, all they are asking is for you to try to be more considerate.

CaNsA wrote:

Are they 100% standard? Technically it is an offence to make them noisier even if they are still quieter than the legal limit (seems to normally only be used against cars though).

CaNsA wrote:

Using the choke will not make any difference to the chances of it seizing (beyond using the choke for too long washing oil from the bores and possibly increasing the chances of it seizing, although most likely just increasing engine wear).

Not really true. Cars have no specific noise limit in UK law although I think there is a European limit of 74db. Bikes do have limits on 80db, which is 4 times as loud as the 74db limit.

He never said accelerate quickly, just accelerating off.

All the best

It was a fairly precise, polite and factual letter. I feel your reply is rather childish.

I can understand you feeling like you have done nothing wrong. But how would you feel if a group of cars were outside your house often making a racket?

You've upset your neighbours, be a grown up, apologise and at least try and compromise. It's called consideration for your fellow man. I'm sure if your Nan had written that letter you'd quieten down.

A lot of people do sit there revving their bloody engines unnecessarily. Particularly people on big bikes. It irritates me, even as someone who has spent a lifetime riding noisy old nails. It's also entirely pointless. Start up, pull off a few seconds later, ride slowly until the engine is warm. No need at all to rev rev rev the bloody thing etc Wink

Classic kiddie biker response. You get sent a polite and factual letter, and instead of accepting that you're pissing off the neighbours, you respond aggressively.

Well done, you've just made yourself look like a dick, and riled up your neighbours. If they feel like it they'll complain the council or tip your bike over.

Bikes are noisy. Noise is annoying. Unless you happen to be riding an extremely tuned 2-stroke, you don't need to have it sitting there ticking over on choke until it reaches operating temperature. You should use the choke to start up if you need to, and ride away straight away. Turn the choke off as soon as it will idle smoothly without, and keep the revs and throttle openings down until the engine has warmed up. Even riding hard from cold won't seize it, it may cause more wear on your engine, but that would only be apparrent after 100,000 miles.

Letting your bike sit there warming up on choke is pointless. I assume it's a water cooled bike, so you're warming the coolant but not really warming the oil.

You can consider yourself educated now, apologise to your neighbours for being a dick, and stop acting like one.

I agreed with the 2 posts above you and the one below - you would have gotten an 'agree with this post' karma too but you just had to throw that in didn't you!? Rolling Eyes

There is if they rev their sh*t 4x4 every morning...chucking out plumes of crap across the road.. I'd happily rev the nuts of a 2 stroke at 2am..

After your childish response to a reasonable letter, it's very likely they will get the Environmental people onto you. Noise is a nuisance, everyone hates it, I'm sure you do too (when it inconveniences you). Is it any wonder we motorbikers get a bad press, it's people like you who fuel this fire. Rolling Eyes

Its funny to see who assumes that we sit there revving bikes......

@all the people who can identify with the previous statement, for all you lot know all we do is wash and polish our bikes and drink coffee.

as no to disappoint those who say i respond aggressively,
fuck you and your assumptions

My bike is only running when im putting my lid on and locking my garage, that takes about 3mins.

I notice there is no mention in the letter regarding the clio sport 16v jobby that makes far more noise than any of the bikes that turn up here, nor does it mention the 3 cars that park here with blowing exhausts which also make more noise.

And yeah, i do like to let my 20 year old bike warm up a bit before i ride it, there is nothing wrong with that, and it doesnt mean i rev my bike.....

I am a considerate neighbour, and i get on well with tha majority of people on this private estate.

I am laffin my fkin ass off at the "witch-hunters" on here.
LOLZ

Addition :-

For those of you who asked, it is between the hours of 8am and 11pm

Whilst the letter they sent is polite, I have to say, fuck 'em. Unless there's 5 people revving the tits of their bikes for no real reason then bollocks to them.

Expect section 59's though. (Or whatever the number is).

My bike is pretty loud, I rev it to warm it etc. (Obviously not too early or late though.

(Hmm, I rev my bike and don't care, my dogs bark and I don't really care, I drive a car with spoiler, low suspension as standard and I like Big macs. Fuck, I'm a chav). Laughing

I had this problem, even though i dont leave my bike running for long periods (3mins max while i kit up, choke comes off almost straight away).

Except i didnt get any letter, i got assulted reguarding the noise my bikes make Rolling Eyes ....

So, what have a changed since that? nothing.....had the neighbour been civil and approached me, i would of changed things.

Is this wrong in the eyes of BCF? Laughing

Nice neighbours.

Why can't people just knock the door and ask politely if you could not make a lot bike noise between [insert times]. Complaints to the landlords/councils and punching people is a little silly. Rolling Eyes

Why should there be? They might well have also got letters and I would doubt those letters mentioned your bike/s

Doesn't really do any good but does add to the general level of noise.

Whether you are being quiet or not, someone isn't happy about it. And some poor bugger has been obliged to write to you about it. Any sympathy they had for you has probably gone straight out of the window with the tone of your reply.

All the best

Of course it's wrong. The fact the OP got a letter just goes to show he's got (or rather had) decent neighbours...you clearly haven't.

That's a letter from your landlord I presume?

It doesn't take much for some people to get a mood on about others. A friend of mine lives in a rented house and received letters from her landlady informing her of complaints she was 'staring' in her neighbours windows every day. It's complete bollocks, infact she thought they got on as they smiled and chatted normally when they happened to pass in the street...
Turns out the neighbour is a complete mentalist with previous. Noice. Rolling Eyes

Just because someone can use a telephone and ring your landlord to complain doesn't mean they have any grounds to complain on, nor that there is even a problem.

Good luck Karma

I have a ZX9R it only starts with the choke on (from cold), If i turn the choke off before its warmed up, (a min or two to get 1 bar on the temp guage) it will struggle to idle and the engine will die. If i ride off with the choke on its dangerous as a) the choke accelerate the bike b) throttle response is jerky and unpredictable.

Every in bike i've had has been like this including a 08 VFR (in fact that was worse)
