Do you know whether I can upgrade my bro's PS3 hard drive to 1TB? If I can is it a straight forward swap plug and play?

Not quite but as far as I know its fairly simple. Just search youtube for PS3 harddrive upgrade videos, there must be loads.

i was under the impression, you remove drive, install new one and away you go.

maybe not, besides 120gb is more than enough for me

I think theres a configuration you have to go through using the PSN interface, like I said simple, but not as simple a PnP

Ive done a few and as long as you can get the drive you wont have a problem.

Biggest ive done was 500gb, on a totaly fresh machine I did have to get the latest update from the sony website, but in general its back up your game saves etc, sync your trophes, swap the new hard drive in, restore your back up and re sync with the server and jobs a good un.
