I;d guess this is owing to the fact that any emails to parliament go straight into the spam box and we get told "thanks for your opinion, we'll consider it (mug)".

Add to the fact that what parliament wants, it gets, so it's pointless. Christ they don't even listen to their own advisory board on drug safety, why would they give a shit about the opinions of the slaves? Tens of thousands turned out to protest against invading Iraq/Afghan, and guess what happened?

Classic ploy, let people think they have a voice, and can make a difference, and they'll just suck up the end result as defeat and a "we'll get 'em next time" attitude.

Re digital economy bill, people will just find ways around it and persist as normal.

Last week I posted a topic about this here and there were no responses. I guess the mentallity of this forum is to complain about things after they are done rather than make any attempt to counter them.

So we have a shitty government and you want to do nothing about it because if you did, you would have nothing to complain about.

This is baaad, real bad.

Now they can block/shut down websites if they are 'satisfied' that they are, or HAVE POTENTIAL TO infringe copyright.
This means the government are judge, jury and executioner to sites they believe to be assisting copyright infringement.

Is nobody worried about the internet blocking clause?
This means a complete family gets their connection cut when little Jonny download that Lady Gaga album... or when Steve from two streets over rocks up outside your house to hack your Wifi and download the latest films.

Can you imagine the arguments that would break out in student houses? As they have mates drop in all the time, someone drops round, brings their laptop out of standby to resume downloading, but it's the residents of the house that get punished.

What then? This will go off with a bang as soon as people start getting punished. An IP address is not a person. How will they prove it's you?

Well, for a start I never saw your original thread.

Nor did I see anything to do with any new bill, because I don't watch national news nor read any papers, nor online reports on anything.

Regarding the link, that is an awful lot of text on a backlit screen (another thing I don't/can't read) so unless you give me a synopsis, and send me a pm next time something important happens, I will rush in from my life living and support everything you say about the world at large.

How about an e-Petition for starters...? Neutral

Boy oh boy MattHirst, I wish I could.

But when US television series take months to come over to our little island, I can't stop grabbing Stargate Universe... Fringe... Scrubs...

It's not like I don't buy DVD's though. I'm a keen buyer of UK comedy series. Even to the point of holding off watching it on TV so I can watch a series all at once.

The internet and new media sharing blurs the lines of what is legal and what is illegal. 4OD keeps classic shows around for streaming for a looong time. The BBC remove shows after a week in most cases.
A project like spotify would have been deemed some kind of unworkable illegal atrocity five years ago. What about Pandora radio? Or Last FM? They push our definitions of what is legal and what is infringement.

A similar anti piracy law was introduced in Sweden about a year ago. Since then, piracy in Sweden has increased.

I guess maybe everyone thinks like me.

Its like the limited offer in the shop, that makes you go buy something because you think it may not be available forever.

I was one of the people emailed to my local MP because i saw this as the possible travesty that i think it is going to actually end up as now. Didn't just use the templated email too, i went into more detail than that.

I soon received a letter in the post, saying that he himself had written to Stephen Timms asking him to "address the conerns i had raised", and that i would be written to again, "as soon as i have something to report".

The thing is, from what i can see of the debate, Stephen Timms seems to have been one of the numpties that have forced this bill through and ignored too many of the highly sensible concerns of other MPs. So that'd be a fail to my local labour MP.

I couldn't help but rage at some of the statistics being used in the 2nd reading debate of the bill too; it partly explains why parliament do so many daft things. As an example ~20,000 letters and emails were dismissed (i think it was Timms again) out of hand as unimportant compared to the 400K people who work in our creative industries "who want this" (implying they all wanted the bill) blah blah blah. It was soon very clear it was the big players like the BPI that wanted it (who "represent" a fraction of those people), and that he had absolutely no figures to back up the actual number of people in these creative industries that wanted the measures (i have heard plenty of people in these creative industries who DO NOT WANT restrictive bills like this!)

It appears i have missed the irony/joke. Possibly simply because it is late at night and i'm tired, but i suspect not.
Would be interested to know what is particularly amusing about that, have you even looked at it?

It's pretty simple. If you don't buy iTunes you'll go to prison for ten years and pay a fine of £thousands.
