Got the idea off youtube some time ago, and though it was cool ... for some reason I decided to give it a go (probably as I had a recently procured an empty hot-dog jar to try it with!! Smile).

To be honest, it wasn't all I hoped for ... I think the jar was too tall ...

but here is my attempt anyway ... it kinda worked for a very short burst ....

Have a look on youtube for/at other people attempts ... it is pretty cool!! Cool

So, come on BCF, someone out there make a good one, take a vid and then post it up!! ... once we know the exact jar used, we can go out and get that same jar and try it ourselves!!! Smile

I think the idea of it being dark is so you can see what's going on (with the flamey jam far) Rolling Eyes

What else is there to see? A jam jar with a hole in the lid, put some meths in it and light it Confused

Does white spirit have enough oooomph!?!?! Thinking

The only ones I have seen have been run on either model fuel (nitro methanol), methylated spirit or pure alcohol ....

Hmm, well white spirit's all I have kicking around in the garage, or diesel (which won't work obviously.)

Where can I get some meths from? Wickes or similar? I don't have any model fuel left after I sold my nitro buggy years ago.

Yeah, Wickes probably do meths, as will homebase/focus/B&Q Thumbs Up

You could always try a bit of petrol&white spirit mix??? Confused

Oh and I mean it when I say wear goggles and gloves ... even with gloves on I have burns on my hands ... the blast burn right through the glove in a nanno-second!! ... wouldn't like to think what it would be like with NO-gloves!! Shocked

Probably, I'll have a hunt around.

Having done a little research, I think your hole maybe too big, that's why it's not running well. They say that between 10-12mm is best for a really well running one. Thumbs Up

I actually used a 9.5mm drill-bit!! Thumbs Up

I also tried putting a washer over the top to try and 'choke' it a bit ... but it blew straight off!! ... it is all good fun!! Laughing

Yep ... but didn't have a bigger bit (well other than a 10mm)

So I just 'enlarged the hole by wiggling the drill bit about ... this didn't improve the performance ... to be honest, I think having a perfectly circular hole might be quite critical to the whole thing?!!? Confused

Hmm, I'm not sure. Some people seem to get decent ones by whacking a screw through the lid. I guess it could just be down to the luck of the draw.

Just buy loads of jars of hotdogs. Laughing
