Found a tire Rip/Cut

Was thinking of replacing the tyres soonish anyway, but noticed this.

Pretty weird, being all in one area. I don't think the cuts are as deep as the tread.

Need replacing ASAP?

The safe expensive option is to get new tyres,

However if it is not as deep as the tread, I would be tempted to file down or cur out the leading edge a little bit into more of a ramp so it has less chance of tearing your tyre apart.

But thats just me as I ride bikes in awful conditon.

I'd say ride it, it's no different to any tread pattern in the grand scheme of things. If it was side wall damage or side wall bulge then it's a different kettle of fish. Tyres are designed to take a lot of abuse.

Safe option is to replace.
But keep an eye on it, as long as the cut doesn't get deeper it should be ok..

Chav attack? Haha. I have no idea.

I'm not even sure how long it has been there, only noticed it today.

I don't really want to file anything down.

I guess it will be new tyres sooner rather than later.

To put a cut like that into a tyre isn't particularly easy - When I'm attempted to saw a much thinner tyre off a rim it's taken a couple of minutes with a hacksaw to get a cut 3mm deep into the rubber.

For a skinny chav to make a cut that straight would need a stanley knife, a steady hand, and a fairly strong arm.

This makes me think it could be a manufacturing defect. The correct course of action would be to ask the tire manufacturer if they have any recalls out on that model of tyre, or chat to the place that fitted it. Chat to a fitter, not the manager, they're marginally less likely to try and sell you a new tyre regardless.

I would still ride with it on my bike, but my bike doesn't accelerate hard past 60 and is mostly ridden around town. You bike probably has enough power to spin up that tyre and go quickly, which would be a very bad thing if the tread is going to fly off (tyre delaminating, have a look for Sickpup's pic of when he had a tyre delaminate).

The tyres are a set of Dunlop Qualifiers that came stock with the bike.

I'm not aware of any recall issues. I can still go to the place I got the bike from though.

it looks like a moulding line, we see a lot of car tyres like this and did send 300 back to continental at one point (fitted to new cars) but they (continental) said it was just a moulding line that appears sometimes as the tyre wears and would be fine,,
not so sure i would want to see it on a powerful bike tyre tho.. get a second opinion off a tyre fitter.
