PostPosted: 17:01 - 11 Apr 2010    Post subject: Ride Report - Bocketts Sunday 11th April 2010 Reply with quote

Attendees: Joe, Philo, Adamski and Me.
Route: Bocketts Surrey to Hindhead Sussex.
Weather: Perfect
Last ride on the WR400 (Its now sold)

After much gheying about regarding how far we ride ... we finally decided to man up and combine the 2 routes (Bocketts and Hindhead) ... which we estimated as a full days ride.

Started off at Bocketts (9:30 .. waiting for Tatters) and rode to the TRO'd chalk hill.
Although its closed .. we always pop over to see how far they have progressed with opening it to 2 wheeled vehicles only Smile.
unfortunately its still closed Sad.
Headed through the sand gallops and onto Coldharbour run ... the lane was perfect ... muddy at the start, then opening up with woopy parts and twisty sand section.
No horses .. no runners .. just us Smile

I think it was at this point that Joe realised he had a bit of a mechanical problem.
In addition to a badly leaking fork seal ... he also informed us that he "was leaking wheel oil " Shocked Confused
Wheel Oil ??? Thinking I must admit my mechanical knowledge is pretty poor ... so I had never heard of this before.
We later found out that he meant the water/mud mix that leaks out of the rimlock holes every now and then.
But by then the pi*s taking had stuck and I urge anyone riding with Joe to mention his wheel oil at least once a ride (thanks).

Tow Brake lane was navigated without incident .. which is rare (Garry fractured 2 ribs there last time).
Beelzebubs was, for some, reason bypassed by all except Joe who just whizzed through.
A combination of steady pace and minimal (3 smoke breaks) and we were at Newlands by 11.30

It was at this point we reverted to type and gheyed out.
Joe couldnt continue due to no fork oil .. and we didnt know the Hindhead route.
So 3 of us reversed the route and headed home via the lanes Thumbs Up
Despite not completing the objective .. it was a top day, and the lack of smoke breaks(ie: we just kept riding) meant it was quite physical (well, I am pooped). Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

It was the last ride on my trusty WR400 .. and I wish the new owner well on it. Its been a trusty ride.
I ballsed up the video and had it taking still shots every second for the ride instead Rolling Eyes So here are a few choice ones from the 4759 images Smile

Top pictures Silky - I reckon they're better than the video Thumbs Up

Anyway, I've ordered some new seals and fork oil. I asked if they had any wheel oil but they'd run out.

Neat ... I actually really like the 'stills' .. Smile

You could always stitch the stills together and make a really cool movie like that!! Cool

p.s. whats up with your speedo??? Wink

p.p.s. If you had started at Hindhead, you wouldn't have been able to ghey out like that!! Wink

When I got back and realised what I had done, I was miffed off.
But its actually quite good .. you get some great action shots ... and its good fun not knowing what you are going to find on the memory card when you get home.
* This pic is a great example of a shot I would never have noticed in a video.

Speedo is broken.

We are ghey ... but we are trying to get stronger.
Today we did the whole route with only 3 smoke breaks ... as opposed to the usual 8. Embarassed Thumbs Up

Yeah, the shots worked well, might beworth setting on purpose at certain lanes (i.e. get some vid and some still and have a vid and action photos)! Cool

Oh and when you are down to ZERO smoke breaks and the whole route, give me a shout! Wink

I spoke with the local Countryside access offices yesterday on this point - below is the latest Smile

Thank you for your query regarding Beggars Lane/Drove Road.

The temporary closure which was put in place due to safety concerns ends on the 23rd of April (next Friday).

On the 23rd April the Permanent TRO agreed by the Guildford and Mole Valley Committees will be put in place, this TRO will prohibit any motor vehicle with four or more wheels and any horse drawn vehicle over 1500mm (4’11’’), so it will be open to all Motorbikes.

The major gully running down Beggars lane has been repaired with chalk and compacted down, and all the wallows on Drove Road have also been repaired to a high standard.

The TRO coming into place next Friday will be advertised in the paper, on the Surrey County Council Website, on site and to all user groups and interested parties.

Nice one MJ Karma
Be nice for it to open up and complete our circuit again ... But I hate the term:
"repaired with chalk and compacted down, and all the wallows on Drove Road have also been repaired to a high standard. " Crying or Very sad
That hill was a real challenge ... especially going back up in the wet.
I remember my first ever days of off-roading ... and Joe physcing me up to attempt it by calling me a "ghey fagg*t" (old school motivational methods) Embarassed

GoPro HD.

A bit pricey ... but the quality is very good and more impressively, the casing is waterproof to 60m Shocked
ie: you can take it surfing / swimming / dunk it in puddles when you come off / etc.

I am particularly looking forward to taking on holiday this summer, and into the sea when my large breasted sister in law will be surfing. Shifty

Ahh yeah, one of our guys that comes out regularly with us using a GoPro HD.

Did the memory card last for the whole 4759 images ? I know the GoPro HD uses its own battery unlike the original GoPro that used AAA's or what ever it used. So i'm presuming that lasted too.

Don't forget to post that surfing footage up Razz Thumbs Up
