I have a BT home hub. I use wireless connection to my laptop and to my xbox 360. It works well enough, I don't get that much lag in games.

However, it says that my NAT type is strict. What is a NAT type, what does it mean, and how do I make it not strict?

I did find some info on how to reset the settings on my home hub with my browser, but I still have a strict NAT type.

Are there anyways to sort this out without monkeying around with different bits of hardware in addition to or instead of my home hub, as I don't really understand technical malarky and just like to plug things in and have them work.

Try turning the router off and on. Type 192.168.1.254 into the web browser address bar to access the router settings and try resetting it from in there.

Then try and test the connection in your Xbox settings and hopefully that should sort it.

Mine's been alright recently, but it does seem to happen at random, and randomly fix itself after much turning off and resetting.

My BT homehub is forever doing this randomly, like THX I find the old power-down reset works followed by testing settings again. You can try setting up the homehub using the online guides and it will most likely work for a bit but the homehub is still an annoying little piece of crap with poor self discipline and you'll find yourself in the same boat again.
