How is that not helpful? It shows all the people who sell MD80s in the UK. There was only two, one with a memory card and one without.

Anyone know of any voice recording kits that can fit in a helmet to use with this camera?

With mine, i used my mobile phone and a hands free kit.

If you have an ipod touch, you can use the recorder in that too.

Ok cool.

My phone has a voice recorder so I might try that.

Hopefully it might improve the sound quality.

Here's a quick video with the wide angle lens fitted and the camera mounted to my indicator again (I need to find a better place to mount it).

Clicky

Old biddies who drive the Honda Jazz were out for an afternoon drive Laughing

For some reason it's quite a bit blurrier on the left of the video than the right.

yeah wide angle is a good view.. funny how your fake is a lot smoother than my real.. maybe i'll also try indicator mounting as my fork legs makes a lot of vibrations Sad

then again my cheap £8 keyring camera (in another thread) is a lot smoother too when mounted to my master cylinder.

The wide angle view is definately better although the blurry left hand side is bizarre. I guess you have to be pretty careful when putting the lens on the cam....

Does it stick on well or did it need to be taped down?

Has anyone managed to get decent sound i.e. cut down the wind noise on these yet?

Is there any dirt/fingerprint on the left hand side of the lens?

Only thing I can think of that would cause that.

It does look better with the wide angle.

i opened mine up, took out the speaker and wired in a stereo jack that i've taped on the side Smile

its not the prettiest thing in the world but it allows me to plug in my helmet mic and chat along with some engine background noise rather than just whistling

Today's video was done without any tape on over the microphone and it was far worse than with. Recording the audio through a phone handsfree kit has crap quality but no wind noise.

I'm going to try and little piece of card over the microphone next time to see how that works.

I can see the best option (other hacking about like Supz) being to put the camera in a spark plug box like others have done.

Nope, lens was cleaned with a cotton bud prior to filming. As far as I can tell it's to do with the way the focus on the camera is set.

Hmm I don't fancy opening it up, I have tried gaffa tape over the mic and gaffa tape + spunge to little avail.

I tried various ways of muffling the sound including tape and foam over the mic, but the two most successful methods are:

Record a separate audio track. I used an old minidisc recorder with an external mic under the seat. This worked really well once I got the mic sensitivity sorted out. Then it’s just a case of editing the video and audio back together again.

I bought the waterproof case for the Muvi. My metal MD80 clone is the same dimensions as the Muvi so it works great. The plastic ones won’t work. I actually got the case for snorkelling, but since buying it I’ve used it everyday on my commute, clipped to my rucksack. Don’t have to worry about rain and salt on the camera and the unexpected benefit…

…it muffles the audio enough so you can just hear engine noise, not wind. Perfect.

Or it would be perfect if my engine wasn’t making worrying knocking noises. Sad

The quality is far superior with the minidisc recorder, but its way too much faffing about. If I want a really clear track I’ll use it, but otherwise forget it.

The waterproof case isn’t cheap for what it is. I got it from the Veho Lifestyle shop for £30! You may be able to achieve a similar effect with a Perspex box from Maplin so a couple of quid. But it’s solid and comes with additional crap for mounting it. The case has a standard tripod screw hole as well.

I posted a tiny excerpt of video at the bottom of page 10 with the camera in the case. You can see the camera in the bike mirror and clearly hear my flummoxed gear change after the fool tried to run me off the road. Warning, the video contains scenes of a fluorescent jacket that some viewers may find disturbing. Wink

Can you post a longer video and a link to the case? I will reward with blow jobs and karma.

Thanks for the offer, but this ones for free.... really it is... Smile Sick

https://www.veho-lifestyleshop.com/lifestyleshop/shop_detail.aspx?article=111

You can pick them up on ebay etc, but the official supplier was just as cheap and replaced the case for free when I broke the clasp.

Video.... hmmmm I'll have to look. The majority of my videos are mind numbingly boring, being just an urban commute. Then some of my more interesting videos include a painfully clear view of the speedo. An unfortunate consequence of ducking behind the screen while wearing the camera on the rucksack.... I'll see what I can find.

Neutral

Edit: I think that this provides a good example. The video is, as predicted, enormously boring so you will not be distracted in any way from assessing the quality of the audio. Wink

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyFVI7MB4WI

As a bonus the video includes an additional bike. The Yam R125 in question was even fitted with a loud pipe just to assist with this demonstration. How kind.

Right, with the microphone this time I have a piece of card taped on first and then over the top of that a little bit of plastic sponge that my wide angle lens came wrapped in.

Clicky

I only tested it on my BMX. You can hear the wind hitting the camera but still hear the one way bearing clicking away so hopefully it'll work quite well on the motorcycle. Ignore the vibration noises.

I've scrapped that now, got bored and opened up my camera.

All apart:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1927.jpg

The microphone normally sits in the little slot above the camera lens:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1928.jpg

Now re-located so it's face down on a chip:

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSCF1930.jpg

Very easy to take apart. You need a midget screw driver because the screws are extremely small, unscrew them, remove the memory card and the board and battery come out, then flick the microphone out from its slot with a small screw driver and move it.
