a virginal oil change,

This may be small potatos to you chaps BUT I feel I've performed a rite of passage today.

I did my first ever oil and filter change.

Things I found out -
- most of my fairing allen bolts are as round as round things,
- my oil filter is easily removable without removing the fairing
- oil washes easily off the drive with washing up liquid and a vigorous scrub
- Swarfega is great.

More importantly, the bike restarted and there's no oil weeping shamefully my lemon fresh drive.

Nice, saved yourself some money and learned something.

Today an oil change, tomorrow something else - you'll find that a lot of other stuff is quite straightforward as well.

Excellent ! Probably the single most important regular maintenance job mastered.

Next time stick a piece of old carpet down on the drive, and keep it rolled up somewhere for future work on the bike, save having to clean up muck. Better for kneeling on too than concrete or gravel.

The plugs and air filter are next. I was leaving those for a weekend without chickenpox ridden kids on half term.

As a mid life crisis bike owner/commuter, I'm really pleased at how much attention/maintenance the bike needs, its the perfect mechanically based hobby.

Yep,
It all start with an oil change :p
I ended up stripping the whole top end of my SOHC 125 4st and most of the rest of the bike *grins*.

Get a service manual (wasnt one for that bike though), and get stuck in, its half the fun of having a bike
