Erm... Help!!!!

I'm not a new biker but, i am new to this whole 'text-checker' stuff that's been advertised on t.v.

Just bought a bike and out of curiosity sent one of these texts. The response i got was 'previously scrapped'.

Confused by this as the bike is in (almost) full working order i called up the dvla who confirmed this. They also tell me its not road legal any more.

Has anyone been in this siuation before and how easy is it to get the bike fully legal again?

If it's a cat a or b write off then you have to replace the frame I believe. If it's a cat c then I think you just have to get it MOTed again.

it's not an insurance write off, just been declared as being scrapped

The first obvious answer is to return it to the seller and get your money back, in the DVLAs eyes the bike doesn't exist any more, and its going to take time and money for it to reappear, more than likely on a 'Q' plate.

I've not done this with a scrapper but I would guess the only approved way is to go down the SVA route, as you would if you had built the bike from scratch.

An alternative is to buy another bike, same make and model but as a basket case, and transfer stuff over.

Single vehicle approval. It's a test your bike would have to pass if you wanted to (re)register it for road use. Generally this kind of carry on is more trouble than it's worth, unless you have an exceptionally rare/collectable bike.

the bike itself (other than wiring) is in perfect working order and considering i picked it up for £300 will it turn out to be expensive??

form filling is not a problem - well i say that, but the 6-8weeks it'll take to process each bit will be. besides, it needs a few small tweeks so it wont be sat collecting dust
