I hate these laws, elsewhere like in australia the kids do our equivalent of a cbt and they can have any 250 they want like rgvs and stuff. Grrrrr I get so p****d off with this! Plus in other EU countries they're allowed to ride 50s at 16 and 125s at 17 although aparently the police are more strict on restricted and de-restricted bikes. However I think our government is doing a s**t job of promoting a better alternative to congestion for everyone. And greener too cos' I'm sure a small cg isn't going to put out as much fumes with 1 commuter on it than any car. No one wants buses for gods sake. AM I RIGHT OR AM I RIGHT!!!
While I'm on a roll who thought of those clever bus lanes hmmm. One bus rolls through every half-hour and think of how many cars could go through in that time. The system is so f****d up that they are thinking of charging bikers more tax than ever. WHAT!? Bikes cause the least road wear to the road that any vehicle and cut congestion. Also why is it that trucks get away with breaking the speed limits? the gatsos can't adjust for them so they get away with it. Speeding through villages and towns like they own the road. Basteds! And YOU are the one who gets knocked off when they don't see you. The funniest thing I heard is that the government will fit gps to all our vehicles and charge us when we drive on to a busy road. Oh right so now we might get charged for the privelege of getting stuck in a b****y traffic jam. Why also do the government still charge us a fortune for petrol. It's stupid and its probably supporting a range of public services in this country that aren't working. Basic facts are being ignored and this country is screwed. The only reason petrol went down a lot is that crude oil prices went down. Not because the government gives a s**t. Wow, now I feel so much better.
P.S. Bikers are being discriminated against because mps are jealous when a cg flies by whilst their stuck in traffic. The government is using the pollution aspect of cars and bikes as an excuse to rip people off and not build enough roads for the population even though they know they f****d up public transport so badly that the train companies went bust twice. You can't turn back the clock but FIGHT THE POWER! Evil or Very Mad Wink

I reckon its a good rule in theory..Theres always bound to be bad driver/riders and restricting them to 33bhp for a while is a good idea to keep them and others safe.

Them new plans the government brought up excluded bikes so essentially they would be no road tax for bikes but i cant see that idea gettin implimented.

HGVs might get away with speeding tickets but so what..Cant be angry with HGV drivers for that...

P.S. I feel sorry for your MP

Hi

In Aus there are limits on the 250's that can be ridden by learners, and in most states the RGV is not learner legal. They may have dirt cheap insurance in Aus (I was there for a while and a 6 month policy for a 750 with a UK licence and no no claims bonus I could claim there was less than the same policy in the UK with full no claims), but there road tax is frightening (£220 5 years ago in Victoria)

Keep quiet about bikes an pollution, as they are bloody awful. I took a 1200 Bandit into a car MOT place and got them to do the exhaust check on it. Would have just about passed as a non cat (pre 1993) car with 3%ish CO (current limit for cars is 0.5%). Very few bikes have evaporative emmisions control equipment, and very few have cats (and those that do have cats certainly dont have them situated to heat up quickly).

Bus lanes are a sick joke. The average bus in the UK has less passengers than 6 cars, but does about 5000 times the damage to the road of a car (10000kg bus to 1200kg car) and produces loads more pollution (average bus produces 128 times the particle emmisions of a modern car). Just about the worst polluted part of London is the Underground stations! I doubt many areas will let bikes use bus lanes as there primary purpose is to piss people off and force them into buses.

All the best

Keith

Part of my ride to work in the morning is a busy central London street with 2 lanes and a bus lane. It was only put in recently (about 4 months ago) and prior to it's arrival the road was always stationary or moving at 5mph, and filtering was very difficult due to the small lane size. Now with the bus lane it's a cinch to whizz past all the stuck cagers, a reason I think that the number of 30-somethings riding L plated mopeds through there is steadily increasing.

I always use bus lanes, and from my point of view the law can kiss my arse. The amount of time I save every day, nevermind the lessened chance of being flattened by some dozy twat changing lanes, would be well worth the £80 fine, but so far I seem to have avoided one.

(Don't cut into bus lanes right in front of buses, because most now have cameras. Even if you are filmed by a bus riding in their lane the driver has to actually report the incident and hand in the tape for them to follow it up so if you don't piss off the bus drivers most don't seem to mind sharing the lane with you and don't bother reporting it)
