hi. is it possible to put a 4 stroke engine (like out of a CG125) into an nsr125?
im fed up with the unreliableity and would like a 4 stroke engine but with the nsr's good looks.

I was actually wondering this Laughing
One of my mates, on here, has an NSR and i have a CG, and i wanted to know if you could swap them over... It'd be a really difficult job and you'd have to mod the frame to mount the lump in as the 4t engine will be a lot taller and wider than the 2t engine.

Don't know if it's possible, never seen it done before.

Wait for kickstart, he'll end the thread with a post filled with his infinate wisdom.

Welcome to the forum by the way... Thumbs Up

Bikes aren't lego kids. You can't just get a bit from one bike and click it into place on another.

That said if you're prepared to put enough time/money/intelligence into it then it probably can.

Then again, a great looking, reliable and economic 125 would be good.

Big motocross engine in a 125 chasis is a very good way of making a damn fast little bike! Something smaller like a cg engine is no doubt possible, but you would just end up with something like a cbr125. So financially it makes far more sense to modify a cbr125 or equivalent to your tastes.

The way i see it, the OP has a good wee idea there, as it would have the great looks of the NSR125, but with a 4stroke engine, basically the XR125/CG125/CBR125 engine in a bigger frame.
I might actually attempt this... if i can find the dimensions etc i may start myself a little project when i get my insurance payout... maybe something to keep me busy through the winter...

If you could spend the time etc to make it work, you could certainly ensure that a NSR was reliable.

I'd say my NS/NSRs were more reliable than my CG.

+1 Thumbs Up

what have you done to the NSR to make it unreliable? I have been trying really hard to kill mine and even with a clearly negligent previous owner after the first days work to make it run i've had a few thousand miles of high rev hooning and it has never let me down yet Dance!

Hey,
yeah, my NSR is pretty happy and i got it in a bit of a state (shorting indecators hahahaaa) but still kept on going!

Maybe you could find someone near by that could go over the bike with you? Where abouts are you roughly?

As for putting a 4t into an NSR, have you ridden a 14bhp 4t heh.

Absoloutly nothing like the 2t NSR. I came off a 4t crosser style bike, really no fun whatso ever for anything over 40-50 (could do 60'ish on a good day but many hills around here Sad).

Although its pretty packed in the NSR, if your taking out the 2t engine, out comes the radiator, 2t oil, coolant expansion chamber, biigg air filter i recon you would have a fairly resonable amount of space on there!

If its a 125 single i recon it should fit, but you'll want to do a little plate making to get the engine to bolt in.

As long as you can find an engine small enough with enough power to keep you happen then i'd say go for it, find out the bolt pattern and do a little sketching to figure out how it'll all fit in and let us know how it goes Very Happy

Best regards

seen a few rs's with single cylinder 4 stroke engines in them.
in fact im currently toying with the idea of puting a rotax 600 into my rs. (from a ccm604)
been done before.
half decent frame/chassis & brakes.
most of them have been thrashed to within an inch of their lives, hence the popularity of convertying them to a bigger capacity 4t.
personally dont see the point of puting an engine in thats of lower power than the original.
cheers,
GAZ
