I'm wondering why he wasn't also charged with violating the terms of his licence?

From what i've read elsewhere, it turns out he has an A2 license rather than a moped license as stated by some of the papers.

A 33hp 636 is more than capable of reaching 90mph so they would have a hard time proving it wasn't 33hp at the time.

blatantly not 150mph

They should time how long it takes him to pass between to points on the video, measure the distance between those points, and then realise that the 150mph figure is way off the mark.

Its a bit concerning that the speed gun can over-read to that extent.

I wouldn't have thought he was doing 150mph either, no where near it in fact. He seemed to just dab the break, it didn't look like a prolonged lean-on-the-brake as you would need to do to half your speed.

Also, he was hunched over the bars, even I've been followed (and I'm a pussy) more than once because I've come off a roundabout with the bike tipped over accelerating 'enthusiastically'. On those occasions, when the police have caught up, while it looked spirited I never actually exceeded the speed limit so they couldn't really stop me.

The point is, sometimes on a bike it can look as if your being a tit but actually your not. Probably the machine did register 150 erroneously but because the guy was leant over the bars its made them think it really was accurate. If he'd been in an ordinary sort of sitting position on the bike, he probably wouldn't be in court at all.

Thumbs Up

Its for this reason why im not keen on leaning over the tank when accelerating hard, as so i dont look like im trying to race etc.

Although at speeds my head does get baffled around a bit Laughing

Me neither, leaning over the tank on a F650GS also makes me look like a bit of a twat.

I used to lean over the tank on my AP50 and I could sometimes reach speeds of around 50mph if I was going down a steep hill with the wind behind me. I'm sure that I didn't look like a tosser.............did I?

If I'm on the motorway I always tuck behind the screen as I'd rather not have to be battered by the wind. It also helps my fuel consumption Laughing

Mmm.

When I had my CLR, I just resigned myself to sub-60mph speeds. I sat upright and stoic refusing to look like a fanny.

I wouldn't even say the guy was doing 90-100. The bike doesn't even dip when he brakes, the rest of the traffic must be matching the speed limit if not less.

The guy loks a bit ropey in the picture mind, how do the photographers manage to do that? The most incriminating mugshot ever during the trial, not one of them smiling or anything...

Thumbs Up

Bollocks to it all, I saw an the image of him behind the MPV in the paper the other day and just said to myself
"If that's 150mph then he'd be dead within 1/4 a second with that road positioning."
Funnily enough I said he was probably doing about 90mph.. looking at that video now I'd put money on it.
The Judge isn't going to get a unanimous verdict, so he goes for a 10-2 in majority?!
The Prosecution isn't going to win the case so they plead for a retrial?!
It's a sickening waste of fucking time, it's in no-ones interest and it infuriates me ALLOT. What a joke.

If he was doing 150mph then he wouldn't have come into shot like that, 150 would have looked very different. The short sharp brake he made as he met traffic was to reduce speed from something sub 100mph defiantly. It was a burst of speed and then when he met traffic he matched their speed, i didn't see much danger there.
What i don't like is the fact they keep referring to the bike as if it's something not built for the road. A twist and go 400cc moped thing can do 90mph in a matter of seconds so the performance is irrelevant IMO.

My first thought was that 150 KPH is 93 MPH and that the gun must be broke and getting them mixed up.

But surely the police wouldn't get that wrong. Rolling Eyes

He admitted to speeding, test his bike for the 33bhp restriction, if it clears, give him the points and fine and move him on. Any idiot can see thats not 150mph.

Should do a controlled run, have the camera in the same place, bike pass at 90mph, and then at 150mph. Then compare to original footage, they'd get their answer fairly quick.

I wonder if it would be possible for him to prove his innocence by working out the speed/distance (as mentioned above) and using that as evidence in court? Surely the white lines on the road are set out to a specific pattern and would be fairly simple to work out it was roughly under 150 Rolling Eyes Cool

Well if they can prosecute from random street markers (lamposts, gates etc...as in my speeding offence) then I should hope innocence can be proved from them aswell!

they did try and recreate it if i understand right.
the police said they got to 110mph and thought ''it was too unsafe to continue''.

basically meaning police bikes probably dont go faster.

just cunts. they'll have to do something harsh because its got media attention so as not to let people think they can get away with it.

Even restricted it would do over 90mph, just take longer to get there, i think it would top out at about 100-110 so 150 if proven, would then result in licence terms violation maybe.

I think we are forgetting that an RS125 will crack a ton.

To be fair many cars AND bikes will happily deliberately sit at 90mph on motorways all day long (because 70mph is too low), the obscene majority cars, I think a car will do you more damage if it hits you than a bike.

On a full power machine 70-90 is NOT a long time, and is casually acheivable overtaking a car doing 60-65mph.

150mph is ridiculous, Try KPH, giving 93mph.

No-one seems to have mentioned the moped in the left hand lane. If that's restricted then it's a fair bet the lane he's in is all travelling at 30ish. Guy on the bike certainly isn't doing five times that.
