Seems the volcano in iceland has had far reaching effects! Wonder if any other races/sports will get called off.

Quote:

The Japanese round of the MotoGP world championship at Motegi next weekend has been called off due to air travel problems caused by the cloud of volcanic ash in Europe.

Story here.

Bollocks! Was looking forward to that Crying or Very sad

Yeah the R1 might need a couple extra MPH , but the straight at Qatar is 1 kilometre long!! So I'd say Mr Honda needs to sort out his handling Wink

Aren't all the manufactuers Japanese? Barr Ducati of course.

I'm sure they could knock up a bike in Japan if they needed to to.

What about Trains and Ferries to shift equipment? They have had since last Wednesday.

Its pretty simple if you ask me.

Truck all the gear to Southern Italy, Croatia, Eypt etc.. and fly from there. Easy does it. No problem.

I think it probably would be better if they swapped the Motegi with Jerez. But the cogs are all ready in motion. Not sure how many trucks the 125s/Moto2 and Motogp use. Suspect it would be a paperwork nightmare getting it all sorted.

Moto GP has actually had a great start this year, and night racing FTW so I hope it doesn't affect it too much.

well they have to use trucks anyway, how do you think the stuff gets to their local airport. Making the trucks go a little further wouldn't hurt and would only add 1 day to the travel time.

This'll suit Rossi then, seeing as he recently injured himself.

Laughing That guy has all the luck sometimes.

No they couldn't the race side of the manufacturers is completely different to the side that make the actual race bikes.

Also you would be suprised I think where the bikes are actually made.
I'm not sure about the GP bikes but the majority of the Formula one grid is made in the UK, Only Ferrari, Toro Rosso, Sauber and HRT aren't.

So why couldn't they have trucked the goods to Italy or elsewhere for a flight out to Japan?

Because chances are a couple of teams can't do it for whatever reason plus the majority of foreign fans will not be able to make it.
