Hi please could you tell me anything about this bike, good shit, it will be my first big bike as the hornet i had didnt suit me, as my commute to college isnt very long and the hornet would take how long it takes to walk just to warm up cheers. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120559009293&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

is it really not that far..
I'd say walk/pushbike Wink

But a nice quick plod to work, it might be alright.

I'd stick with a 125 for a small commute like that.

Yeh if i buy that for 600 quid i will still have money left for a decent pushbike for when i need drunk transport and i will have enough money to get me drunk all summer so that is all good, i am keeping my options open as a 125 is probaly the best however this does 80mpg apprently and i like the way it looks

80mpg is probably do-able.
You prefer older looking bikes? fair play.. i dont mind them as commuters, dropping them doesnt do too much damage Wink

You could have just ridden your hornet from cold? But anyway you really are wasting your time putting a helmet on if your journey is that short, get some exercise in too...
If you don't need it for commuting then get a bike for fun!

i used to have a CD250, which i actually sold for a hornet lol.

in reference to that auction

- its missing the chrome grab rail at the back

- the standard twin exhausts have been replaced with a single

- front mudguard is different colour (obviously)

- missing fork gaiters

- tank has a big dent in it

they are good bikes, mine was in excellent condition IMO (apart from the spokes, which were cleaned up sometime after this pic lol)

nice and easy to ride, very forgiving. i got 100 miles to a full tank (about £8 to fill up)

Yeh with my 125 the fuel consumption would always be better on long runs as the engine is warmed, the time it takes for the hornet to warm up was an exageration as i am used to starting and riding of straight away. Also not losing my lisence is one of my priorities and the hornet made speed feel so easy and at 17 my self control isn't up to the standard to stop me giving it sum at every oppertunity.

They are a very well put together motorcycle. The engine it is based on first came out in the late 1960's so any issues they had should have been ironed out by now. They were expensive to buy new because they did make a good job of building them.

Slow and heavy by modern standards (well, even compared to the 60's ones, they are significantly detuned) but overengineered. Should run forever with regular oil changes and a modicum of maintainance.

Aircooled so shorter commutes and town work shouldn't unduly bother it.

You do know you can ride a motorcycle that hasn't been "warmed up" don't you? Start it with choke and then ride off gradually turning the choke off along the way.... or if there's no stopping to be done and just gently cruising then you can pretty much turn the choke off straight away.

CD250s are tough and pretty difficult to break. The major advantage over a 125 is that it's much less likely to get nicked by chav scum.
