Just book yourself on a track day in the novice group.

Go out and take it easy to start with and then build up gradually.

You'll be fine, most track day operators will have a couple of instructors on hand.

A good tip would be when you first start the day you'll be led out on a sighting lap, try and get as close to the front as possible as the instructor will be following the correct lines for the track.

You'd be suprised at the bikes I've seen on track ranging from sports bikes to a couple of harleys.

I've even used my CB-1 on track before.

Take your own bike, as you won't spend most of the day getting used to a strange bike and can concentrate on the track.

While this may sound a bit strange, it's not all about going balls out, it's more important to have fun and enjoy the day (be warned though it can become an expensive addiction).

As above, do a novice group on your own bike, get a free instructor maybe as most trackdays offer it.
Your bike is fine and won’t be the limiting factor most probably.

If you’re in novice and someone has trouble getting past you then either you’re very good or they’re not that much better, so it’s fair enough.

As said, it's more the rider than anything. I've seen every bike imaginable on track and have taken my Hornet on plenty of times. I've seen some guy on a tiny RS125 be faster than a lot of people in inters.

I can vouch for this.

I'm 21, a fairly confident rider on a 95hp 600. On sunday I was battling (and enjoying it!) with a 125 racer - the kid was probably only 14 or 15. Very, very fast.

Gave him a good thumbs up after about 5 laps of overtake after ovetake. Thumbs Up

As Davo says, just book yourself in.

The above is aimed more at coaching racers. I'd say do something like that if you're struggling to go faster by yourself.
