Although i live in York now, I've lived in Leeds / Wetherby / surrounding areas all my life. When abroad or away from home, should anyone ask me where i'm from, i'll always say Leeds - even though i've not actually lived in leeds for 5 years or so...

Does anyone else do this, or am i weird ? Thumbs Up

Hi

I know the feeling. I have lived all over the place so don't really have a place I "come from". Fortunately most people just mean where you live so I can say near Stafford.

All the best

Keith

From: Norfolk

Live: Reading

Reading is a soulless dump, but being from Norfolk usually means people start checking to see if my fingers are webbed.

So the answer depends who I'm talking to. Working abroad a lot I've taken to just saying "London" cos it's easier than having to explain.

Always say I live in Swansea, never even lived there.... no one knows where Ammanford is so Swansea is the next best thing.

I actually live in Surrey though.

I don't have an "home" indentification with any one residence or dwelling.

I was born in cornwall and moved away when I was about 3, moved back there when I was 14. Despite not actually living in cornwall for that long I do identify as "cornish" on the basis I was born there.

I've moved around the country far too much to think of anywhere as home. Unlike some mates who have lived in the same house they were born in, I've moved house 9 times in 18 years.

Dad was in the RAF, so I think the longest we stayed any place was 3-4 years tops. So I don't really have a home as such. When people ask where I'm from, I ask them back 'as in where I was born or where I live now?'

Don't worry, when it comes to your turn to buy a round of drinks everyone will have pretty much realised you're a tight-arsed Yorkshireman (as you desperately try to make any excuse for not putting your hand in your pocket).

Eyt all, sup all, pay nowt and all that.

Thumbs Up

Edit:
Mistergixer's stats:
Born: Darlington, Co Durham
Lived: W.Yorks, Herts, Middx, Essex, Beds.... and this weekend i'm moving into Bucks. If i get asked, i say i'm from Darlo, although i last lived there some 33 years ago.

Same here. I have no need of the mental comfort that the "home" concept can provide. I'm perfectly happy carrying all my gear with me and being happy wherever.
