Hi, I've go tmy Mod 2 on Monday and a couple of hours practice on Saturday, but there's something I need to ask to get it clear in my mind. Am I right in thinking that the examiner asks you to pull over at the side of the road at some point in the test? Is there a set number of times or just once? What's the procedure to follow and what happens when you pull over? Do you just get told to move off again or do you get off the bike etc? Thanks in advance

They'll ask you a few time to pull over to the left.

The procedure is to pull over in a safe spot after doing all your checks and indicating. Don't block someone's drive and obviously don't stop on double yellow line.

Once stopped turn off your indicator and wait. The examiner will instruct you to pull off when they want you too.

And don't stop right before a junction where you will be in peoples way and cause danger to yourself..

Also when you park up behind a car (usually where the examinar asks you to stop) don't park too close.. the closer you are to the car the harder it is to safetly get the bike out and moving again.

And just remember your shoulder checks and cancelling the indicator.

having had to take the mod 2 4 times to actually pass it, I noticed that if the examiner was in a car he would ask you to pull over when he
a) wanted to mark a few minors on your sheet
or in a car or on a bike
b) was not happy with your slow control, balance, obs and wanted to observe them while you were pulling away
c) wanted you to do a hill start

on my last test where the only 2 minors I got were in the last couple of minutes I was not asked to pull over at all.

Nah that must have been true in your case. I got asked to pull over 5 times and had only one minor on my sheet, and the guy who did it after me stopped the same amount and had a clean sheet.

If you do have to get off the bike remember to look behind you before getting back onto the bike.

This is to stop you sticking your leg out into the path of a moving vehicle in front of the man you are trying to impress.

Like mickie, I've had 4 mod 2 tests (still not passed though...), two of which the examiner was in a car, and they ask you to pull over a lot more than when they're on a bike. the bike examiners I had still asked me to pull over once or twice, but nowhere near as much as the chaps in cars.

As others have said, you will be asked to pull over a few times as they want to check certain things. Don't panic if they ask you to pull over many times, it's just part of the test. (I think I've been asked to pull over 4 or 5 times)

Things they definitely want to check is to see how you do an 'angled start' and the hill start.

Also, one small thing. If I'm right, you should only start indicating when you're ready to move and it's already safe to do so. (that means no cars are coming, done all the checks, etc...) If you sit there while indicating, that might cause some driver to slow down to let you out, which could cause problems.
Though I'm not that sure on this one, so ask your instructor.

I was taught the sequence should be look over shoulder, indicate, look over shoulder again then move.

I believe the first look is so that you only indicate when it is already safe to move off.
