DVLA says to get your tax disc before the 5th day of the Month in which you wish your tax disc to run.

I'm confused, does it mean tax before the 5th day of the month so i can get a full 12 month tax disc?!

I have tax bikes lately and all i get is like 11 months and 10 days worth!

How do I get the full 12months, or is it as usual the government screw us over more for more money?!

cheers

Hi

Err, not sure I understand. You can apply for a tax disk a couple of weeks before the month in which it starts. So you could apply now for a tax disk to start on the 1st May.

If you apply for a tax disk online before you old one expires then you have a 5 day exemption from being done for failure to display. You still legally need to have applied for the tax disk. Ie, your tax runs out on the 30th April and you apply online for one on the 30th April then you have 5 days that you can get away legally with not displaying the tax disk. However it only applies if you have applied for tax AND you applied before the old disk ran out. So apply at 23:59 on the 30th and you are OK for 5 days, apply 2 minutes later at 00:01 on the 1st of May and the 5 day exemption doesn't apply. Have a bike which is SORNed already and apply for one on the 30th and legally you cannot ride until the new disk has arrived.

All the best

Keith

I think you may have read it wrong I'm sure it means you can apply for your tax disc after the 5th day of the month before it expires, i;e if the tax disc expires end of April you can purchase your disc anytime after the 5th of April. HTH

thanks that kinda makes sense, its the annoying bit when my bike has been off the road etc that when i apply for a new tax disc i end up getting last's month tax disc for the following year

ie tax in June 20th, I get a 31st May 2011 disc instead of end of June 2011....hmmmmm

This is done as part of the continual taxation purposes. Now there is no excuse if you go away for a 3 week holiday after parking up your vehicle and then drive it upon your return without tax.
For those that get a four week holiday, best get your butler to re tax your vehicle in your absence Wink

You can tax a sorned vehicle 2 days before the month in which it is to run, so applying on 29th April will get you a disc that expires on the 30 april next year.
