Arrived back home yesterday at 3am, after flight out of Pisa (RyanAir) cancelled on Saturday morning.

Trained it to Nice that day, arriving at 10pm at the station full of drunks and weirdos, and the French. Buggered about trying to rent a car at the airport (not possible), then checked into the Etap 15 min to midnight (when reception would have closed).

Our 1 year old was sick that night with an horrendous cough, which had been getting worse throughout our holiday, had to call the frog doc the next day and he gave us a huge prescription and a hefty bill.

Booked TGV to Lille on the Sun to travel on the Tuesday, ran to connect to the Calais train which we only just made, got to ferry port about 9, queued again, crossed at 11:15, picked up at Dover by sister in law, then driven to Soton.

At times it was terrible, constant tiredness and making decisions whilst under a lot of stress, with shit information and very changeable situation, plus lugging shitloads of bags and two kids (3 & 1) about was pretty tough.

Still, we got to see two otters fucking in a park in Nice, which was nice.

Anyone else get screwed?

Didn't get stuck because of the volcanic ash but a few years back we went the dam for a weekend just to goto one of the biggest raves in the world. We had been up for 48hrs straight after we finish partying on the last day, someone said to check the flight times. I proceeded to tell everyone that our flight was at 8pm tomorrow night. We were all fucked at this point and tried to goto sleep but it just wasn't working. We decided to get back on it and power through till the next day (we had to be out the hotel at 12).

The next day sitting in some bar getting fucked up, someone decided mushrooms would be a good idea, even though we were all sleep depraved and paranoid messes from the cocktail of drugs we'd consumed over the last 50 hours. We all got on the shrooms and it got wierd as fuck. We some how managed to get to the airport for 6pm ready for check in but couldn't work out why we couldn't see our flight. After almost an hour of total confusion, we realised that I had infact read the flight time as 8pm when it was 8am... woops.

At this point none of us were in any fit state, most of us just dribbling cabbages not even able to communicate with eachother still twisted on the shroomz. We managed to book another flight for 11am the next day but it was like 7pm at night, so had a long wait. We all had no money left either so couldnt even get pissed to soften the edge of it. Come about 4am in the morning, I was really feeling the worst I had ever felt in my life after being awake for 3 days. One of our mates disappeared for ages as well and after 30mins searching Schipol airport (i think its one of the biggest in the world its massive) we found 2 armed guards dragging him along the floor, we told them it was our mate and they said, and I quote, "One of the cashiers in one of the stores saw him climb into a freezer and shut the lid on himself." The guards had to pull him out of it and were dragging him off, he was off his face when we stopped them.

To top it all off, we couldnt all get on the same flight, 2 of us went to liverpool, the other 2 went to manchester where the car was. Our flight was an hour before theirs, so when we finally got our bags in liverpool, we had to wait another few hours for them to drive from manchester to get us.

Just thought I'd share that with you mate, I know how bad it is when you get stuck in limbo and you're not in any fit state!

Many man-points embedded in that post Thumbs Up
Even though with half a brain you could of avoided most of the problems Laughing

As for me, I've loved the lack of planes, living right next to Luton it's been amazingly peaceful without them.

Once got trapped in Swaziland without any (local) money due to a cuntish Mozambican who denied me re-entry. Got away with that by the skin of my teeth and a lot of ad-hoc friend making Thumbs Up

My commute to work took a week Shocked

Now I am here it seems I will not get back off when I should, so probably be stuck here at least an additional 4/5 days.

Still not flying to us, since this has started we have had 2 flights out of about 15.

So a big backload of guys wanting home, with the prospect of waiting on a flight or potentially up to 40 hours on a boat. Sick
