Unfortunately I'm now one of those loud "ped boys" I hated so much. I bought a second hand Gianellia race pipe and just installed it about a week ago when my stock exhaust blew in half from rust after being sat for two years and well lets just say I'm getting noticed.

All my neighbours want my balls on a plate one threatened to call the police if I didn't get it sorted soon, school are majorly pissed, animals are scared of me and I can be heard about 800m away or so?

I have a feeling it needs repacking which should then dull it down a bit however I can't get that done for about 6 days and I'm not able to do it myself either since its rivetted... Anyone got any ideas what I can do except not ride it?

1. I doubt you can be heard almost a kilometre away.

Options 2, 3 and 4 are an either/or kind of thing.

2. Tell your neighbours to fuck off, only adviseable if the noise is below the legal level.

3. Get a different exhaust.

4. Take silencer apart and make it more silency by refilling with exhaust wadding.

you could always make up a temporary secondary silencer system..

assuming it looks something like this:
https://www.speshul.org/random/pedexhaust.jpg

I would suggest:

- one standard size Stella tin (empty)
- three metal pan scourers (ask your mum or about £1 off the market)
- one ~50mm jubilee clip (halfords, about £4)
- duct tape

then you:

- Drill a grill of small holes in the base of the empty Stella can
- Unravel the metal pan scourers and feed them through the drinking hole of the can, actually wire wool might work better.. although it may catch fire if your exhaust is hot enough?
- unscrew the jubilee clip, the cheap halfords ones come apart easily
- Feed the little exhaust pipe end in the can into the stella can through the drinking hole of the can (widen if necessary)
- Use your manly strength to crush the top end of the can down unitl you can get the jubilee clip to close round the top of the can
- Tighten jubilee clip down until it holds the Stella can onto your exhaust
- Duct Tape to seal the hole around the top
- Win!! \o/

Total spend will be about £5, and all the raw materials should be readily availble to anyone who puts a race exhaust on a moped Very Happy

Sorry I tell a lie I just checked the distance and I can be heard 0.4 miles away, yes its loud....I think its over a 100 decibels since it causes me discomfort when next to it.
Can't really get a different exhaust i'm an unemployed 16 year old with limited funding.
Can't get it repacked untill wednesday at the earliest since it has rivets which I can't remove since I only have hand tools.

Karoshi thanks for the quick fix solution however my exhaust is one of those long ones that go alone the side and are straight, it doesnt have the reverse can bit, will put a picture up later when I get back. Think it would still work on that?

Your inability to make your bike conform to construction and use regs isn't my fucking problem. Get a standard pipe on it before you get hit with a rectification notice.

Hear Hear,

Get a job you pikey! How do you afford the petrol? Go on the Rob?

No I had savings from when I had a job and birthdays etc.
Trying to sell my peugeot speedfight 2 rally victories edition before I'm able to buy the new pipe. I'm not a pikey thank you very much Its mainly the fact I've spent about 1.4k so far and no I'm almost drained funds wise.
