"Tiananmen square" "Dalai lama" (spread the words)
/might aswell be whispers at this rate lol

So discuss.. where from here? What effects is this going to have domestically?
Will the Chinese people become aware of the lengths that their state has gone to and more importantly what will they do about it?
Is this big news or something that will just fade away?

Crazy to think that the Chinese govt gets away with this sort of censorship. It can never last forever, I'm sure in my lifetime it will be resolved, as generations of better educated people move through and up society the reigns will be loosened. IMO.

Erm its actually called the June 4th Incident, not Tianamen square riots as there have been many tianamen square protests going back to the boxer rebelions.

However in 1989 the government actually LOST, sure lots of people died but the fact that people were ready to stand and fight openly shocked the government into changing policies that they pretty much wanted anyway.

The reason why the UK government can take the proverbial is that most if not all people are not willing to stand fight and die for their causes. Imagine if the government passed a nasty law and we marched on London armed with RPGs and AK47s, the government would be scared.

There are some gigantic social cohesion problems in China like this

You don't want to hear about the 3 possible outcomes to this as all of them are pretty dire.

The government like China's is something far different from what other nations practice. And so the people have different approaches towards their government as well. Itchy has really good points. It's up to the people to act on their own. If they want change, they should somehow do their part.
