Hi,

My FZ6 has a YM600 alarm fitted, which I was unaware of until today when I was getting my bike ready to use again this year.

I have just replaced the battery and that somehow has triggered the alarm and I cant turn it off without disconnecting the battery again. I wasnt given a fob when I bought the bike!!

Anyway, I reckon the main dealers will be able to remove the alarm for me (at a hugely inflated cost no doubt), but my main worry is that my bike isnt Tested and therefore not taxed.

Any idea how I can get around this?

I understand I am ok to ride to a test centre if it is not taxed etc, but the alarm thing could throw a spanner in the works.

Do you reckon i'll be ok riding to the dealer and getting them to sort the alarm and then test the bike providing I book a test for that day?

As it doesn't immobilise the bike just find the fuse and pull it out or find alarm and cut the red wire and insulate both ends so you don't burn anything.
Gives you the option to sort it at a later date once you've got everything else done

There will be a fuse somewhere if its some what decent, if not pull the alarm and then follow each wire and rewire cut ones if need be. Time consuming but it will stop battery drain and add value to your bike. Laughing

Hi again,

the alarm is a YM600 which I think is a factory fitted Yamaha alarm.

I cant see any inline fuse coming from the alarm and I cant see any red wires coming from the alarm, they are all black. I traced one of them back to the negative terminal on the battery but with this disconnected the alarm still triggers.

No get the alarm unit in your hand, and follow the wires connected to it to your loom, it will be wired in by the sounds of it.
Just follow the yellow brick road.
You'll need wire cutters, a soldering iron, and some solder maybe some heat shrink but deffinatly some insulation tape.
If you was local to me i'd help you out.

ok thanks,

the alarm is pretty well packed in, underneath a bunch of other wires, so I will try and prise it free.

Also the wires coming from the alarm unit go off in different directions, I assume two go to the rear indicators, two to the front indicators, one I think goes to a seat switch, one definately goes to the negative terminal and i'm unsure about any others, i'll have a proper look tho, but unfortunately it is positioned under the petrol tank and so not in the most accesible of places.

I believe (check up first) that you're allowed to ride to a 'place of MOT repair' too.
