Just wanted to confirm my thoughts on this - mixing brands is never a problem, right?

I've almost used up all my Castrol GPS 10W30 oil, and won't be buying it again as it's so overpriced (i was desperate when i bought it down my local Halfrauds).

So i'll be looking at topping up until later this summer (when it's due another oil change) with another (cheaper) 10W30 semi-synthetic.

Any suggestions/recommended eBay links for that (i.e. something sensibly priced, so unlikely to be Castrol again) by the way? Very Happy

Personally I'd be tempted to just do an oil change.

Usually mixing brands isn't an issue though no.

Hi

How much oil have you got left?

Generally mixing brands of mineral oil doesn't cause a problem. Only person I know who had an issue was my father with the diff oil in his car, which somehow seemed to react and give a fairly horrible lumpy "oil".

Don't mix mineral and castor based oils (eg, Castrol R).

All the best

Keith

About 50ml at a guess.
Is the current oil: "Castrol Power1 GPS 4T 10W-30" a "castor based" oil?

Hi

Castor based oils are pretty specialised and rare. Highly unlikely any normal road oil will be castor based.

All the best

Hi

Interesting. While loads have used normal GTX, I have heard of a few people trying Magnatec and having clutch problems.

All the best

Keith
